Such crazy overreaction. How many CL Titles did Fergie win in his 20 years of dominance? Two. And those two were both flukes (99 miracle and Terry slip) in all honesty. It's really fucking hard to win the Champions League even for the best teams. No one has ever repeated as Champions. Knockout Competitions should not define whether a manager was good or not.

Obviously I'm disappointed about not winning the CL in the last 3 seasons, but Pep was a great manager for this team and we will see the benefits for years, possibly decades more. I think his reign pushes Lahm into management, for one. A few poor games aside, this team is better now than it was 3 years ago. Yeah we ripped apart Barcelona on the counter attack in 2013, but that's not necessarily a great indication of overall quality; look at the final against Dortmund a few weeks later that we really could have lost.

The 2013 team, despite what you might think, was powered by fury over 2012 (when they had a Leverkusen style loser treble), tribute to Heynckes who was leaving, and a lot of the work had been put in place not by Heynckes, but van Gaal. The 2016 team was powered by quality. They had nothing to prove and they damn near won a treble. You might say there's no competition in Germany, but Dortmund are going to finish this season with more points than Bayern had last year when the title was wrapped up in March, and more points than they had in either one of their previous title wins. Dortmund are having a historic year and to outpace that requires a great squad; in fact I believe Dortmund will finish this year with the 4th best season ever in the Bundesliga. Bayern are a great squad, and Pep is responsible for improvement in every single player in the team with the possible exception of Javi Martinez who has been injured almost constantly for 3 years.

Too bad Yaya Toure is finished for football now that City will start being a serious team next season.

And his legacy would have been far lessened if he had not won those titles. Again, it's not just that he didn't win - he failed to reach the finals at all. Even if BVB have had a great year, they have not actually breathed on Pep's neck at any point in the last 3 years so how their seasons compare to others are irrelevant. Sure, Knockout Competitions should not define a manager's success, but evaluation of player and tactical development is too subjective and the domestic achievements were the bare minimum for Pep, anyway. The fact of the matter is that Pep had every advantage any manager has ever had to achieve the ultimate goal in European management and it's simply that he failed, which as you've pointed out is totally understandable, but that he didn't even get to the final hurdle.

He's lost to the eventual Champions... let's just say it... all 3 years. So that just tells me it's a bad draw. And honestly, we were never the best team because of injuries and whatnot until this year. I'm GLAD, I am incredibly thankful, that we did not lose in the Final 3 years in a row. THAT would be seen as a crazy failure and it would have been unbelievably painful each time. 3 Chelseas in a row, kill me. I can handle this.

We were not better than Madrid and Barca those past 2 years.

Ancellotti will win cl in his second season just to compound guardiola failure, only reason he won't win it in first season is so people don't say he won it with guardiola's team

Ancelotti has it easy to surpass Pep in terms of titles, only must win the BuLi 4 times and reach the semifinal every season. Dont forget German Cup (winners/semifinal/final yet to play).

Did Pep even have any competition in the bundesliga? Is the real reason he is not renewing at Bayern because for the first time in his reign Dortmund are getting good again?
