This will be the permanent SG thread for FC Porto.

Basically the same squad as last season but with a different coach (Sérgio Conceição) and legitimate high hopes.

Let's do this shit

Starting XI
I remember Sérgio Conceição so well from EURO 2000 when Portugal beat Germany 3-0 in the last match of the group stage, where most of the main players were rested, with him scoring a hat-trick. Just had to get this off my chest.

What about Quintero? Is he still your player? From what I've been watching, he has seemed more like his old self playing for Independiente Medellín back in Colombia in Liga Águila.

He got injured just before the friendly matches against Spain and Cameroon in the beginning of June, otherwise he probably would've made the selección over quite a while. Awesome player. I'd really love it if he'd make it in Europe, and became an influential player for the national team again. Instead of the fat Edwin Cardona lol. To think of it he was touted to be a bigger talent than James at some point.. Their playing styles are quite similar.

Check out this 4-minute highlight reel of him playing for DIM if you're interested. Some nice passing, assists, free-kicks and overall bangers in there.

Quintero promised a lot but he's a major flop. He lacks sense of professionalism and isn't mentally fit to play for a top team.
Sure that left foot of his can do wonders but anything else is just not enough. He isn't strong, quick or tactically evolved.

One of those players that will never make it in Europe, but is regarded as a great talent and somehow delivers in South America...

We've trying to make a decent sale out of him, because he was expensive back in the day. Latest bid we rejected was from the MLS, guess it was a low fee...but I actually think he'd make a difference there.

About our season start, so far so good: 5 wins out of 5 matches, 15 goals scored and 0 conceded.

We were able to resist the transfer market after the André Silva and Ruben Neves departures, which actually helped us keep key players like Danilo or Brahimi. We've made a single transfer in (Vaná, GK), mostly due to UEFA restrictions concerning the FFP and ended up with a very decent squad in the end. My only concern is that it falls short in case we make a good run in the CL...
