That was fucking beautiful (H)
Against France, in France, with Éder of all people (he's known as the ugly duckling of our NT) scoring from long range in extra-time to give us glory was simply perfect, not even in my best dreams I could imagine such scenario.

Losing Ronaldo so early could've been a huge blow for our chances but I think the team did well enough to handle the french pressure, the coach was extremely precise with the subs and we did have our chances before eventually scoring.

This NT was all about teamwork and this success couldn't have been achieved any other way. Much respect to CR because even if he didn't perform at the top of his game during most of the tournament, his passion and positive influence within the group were very important to keep this team aiming high.

So HOLY FUCKING SHIT, PORTUGAL ARE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS!

smilies galore to celebrate

That might be a mediocre champion in a mediocre Championship but its definitely not Portugal fault, they grown a pair and took advantatge from the format. Well played.

Congratulations Portugal. I enjoyed the game and am happy you won. France had the best of the chances but I was gradually getting the feeling that Lady Luck wasn't on their side, and when Gignac hit the post right at the end it seemed like Portugal were destined. Rui Patricio had a great game.

Ronaldo at the end reminded me of terry undermining di Matteo in 2012, I don't see other players do that (give instructions from the technical area) which leads me to believe they are not allowed to do that and he got away with it because he is Ronaldo l. Had to be in the limelight til the bitter end, but it was hard to begrudge him when it obviously meant so, so much

I'm not sure this is a true statement. He didn't do shit in most games and Portugal had a very easy path to the Final; then they won it without him.
He was man of the match for 2 of the games, scored 3 goals and 1 assist. I agree he didn't do shit in most games but still, his performance in the 2 games were crucial. These were the Hungary game and Semi final against Wales.

After how they got out of the group I never would have expected this. Congrats to Portugal!

I must admit I never liked Ronaldo but the way he was around the touchline after his injury, constantly pointing, shouting and motivating his team to no end was awesome. Not sure if I saw such before

That really felt like another dimension of his game, something never seen before. Imagine if he could play with that kind of mentality on the pitch. He'd blow Messi out of the water.

In such an important game, how could CR7 possibly be thinking of undermining Fernando Santos, in the sense of dissenting from the coach's authority? If anything, he was trying to spur on his team as much as he could from the touchline.

Seeing Ronaldo during the extra time act like that, it told me that he has the passion and qualities of a manager post-career. He wanted the win so bad and to not be able to play any part of it on the field, he wanted to lead from sideline and help Santos drive the team home.

He probably risked worsening the knee injury but he just has that winning mentality that makes you think he wouldn't let a knee injury stop him from having an influence on the team.

Matuidi didnt even try to defend him and he was very clpse tp him. Umtiti had a lot of good vertical passes between lines.

"Pouco importa, pouco importa
Se jogámos bem ou mal
vamos é levar a taça
para o nosso Portugal!"

Roughly translated into "It doesn't really matter if we play well or not, let's just take this Cup home to Portugal" as in EAT SHIT HATERS, EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS BABY! :hump::rockman:

That's the mentality you need as a Captain. Not a captain who gives up completely on the National team after losing a couple of finals.

ManUnitedXI

Youth Team
Its not that. It's his drive and passion to win that passed through the players. He risked aggravating the injury and become a 30min player/manager to motivate the players.

The only reason Portugal won this tournament is the tactical pragmatism of Fernando Santos and Ronaldo decided to steal his moment right at the climax by shouting over him with genius tactical advice like 'almost there' and 'you can do it'

Santos drilled this team all tournament but the reason they won is because Ronaldo shouted for 30 minutes at the end. Yeah, right.
