Close comparison, Gerrard had some better years, but Xavi was better for sure ...

I thinks its better to compare Gerrard with Lampard and Scholes, I think Lampard > Scholes > Gerrard

Are you kidding? Scholes is the best midfielder England has had in the past 20 years. He just doesn't get as much recognition because he doesn't score as much as them. England went on a decline after he retired. I think this may haave contributed to England's decline.

I'd say Lampard > Gerrard > Scholes

Never liked Scholes, nor Gerrard

Lamps > Scholes > Gerrard for me. Both Gerrard and Scholes were dropped into favourable situations, Lamps started at West Ham and worked to the top. He's also far more attractive and by the sound of things more intelligent.

None of this has anything to do with actual level of play but I doubt anyone would believe me even if I tried to be objective about Lamps.

As if England were winning World Cups with him in the lineup. He never led them to a SemiFinal.

Didn't inspire them to a final in a EURO either. Scholes isn't as under-rated as you think he is.

I would not put the Gerrard-Lampard combination ahead of Scholes, but I wouldn't consider it to be lower down either. As far as individual players go, I'd say they're all equally disappointing for the England NT.

Lol y'all nuts. England had a decent WC 2002 reaching the QFs and losing to the eventual winners Brazil thanks to that famous Ronaldinho goal against Seaman. In 2004, England again reached the QFs losing on penalties and that game involved the famous Ronaldo winking incident.

Scholes retired in 2004. Since then, that midfield including Gerrard-Lampard has never worked. They reached the QFs of WC or Euros 2 more times but were far from convincing.

The flip side of that coin is that it was really quite selfish of Scholes to retire when he still had many good years (and many EPL titles) remaining, which certainly sours me towards him a little bit. I mean, Gerrard went too far the other way, staying on too long and becoming a liability in his last major tournament, but still.

Scholes said he retired to make way for players like Gerrard and Lampard.8 years later, England tried to make him come out of retirement.

Shut up already. He's in a position ti earn more than that. I hate this narrative about how players are greedy when the teams are making more and more money and it doesn't always trickle down. At Liverpool he can ask for around 140k, easy.

Greed would be a player who took a big contract offer from Liverpool and therefore chose money over CL football. I am sure he would take 100k at Man City.

I think 80 to 120 is fair. 150 that he is asking is too much. Ross Barkley is earning 60k a week. He was not that good this season though. Harry Kane just got his salary bumped up to 30k a week. Sterling had 2 very good seasons but I still think he is far from the finished product. His end product should improve.

Lol no one goes to City to earn just 100k. Players go to City just for the money, not for the UCL.

He doesn't want to play for Liverpool anymore. He would not sign for Liverpool for 150k Pw or even 200k. He wants to move to a CL team. He likes money, sure, but money has nothing to do with him rejecting that Liverpool contract.

You could be right. He has nothing to do with Liverpool anyway. He's born in Jamaica and grew up in London. Who would want to stay in Liverpool?

City is in dire need of homegrown players though. Signing Sterling would just be a starting point, they need some others as well.

Haha :P Scott Sinclair signed for Aston Villa though, so that's no help for them. Milner is leaving etc. Those bastards are probably going to look into Arsenal's squads to deepen their squad with English players, I hope that is not the case and Wenger will just tell them right to just fuck off.
