FIFA 14 - Demo Impressions

Played only few matches, pace is a bit slower, which is good, and there are lots of new animations. Will give detailed feedback for the Demo after more matches. But so far its good. Oh, and yes, no lags, steady 60 FPS, very smooth as should be.

So far i must confess it exceeded my expectations after the first match.
I played with PSG and here are some of my finds
*the pace contro works wonders when shielding the ball and controlling it past defenders (Ibra rules)
*the running system has been improved
*shooting feels a bit better
*passing and crossing seem the same
*deffender place better
*teammates find spaces better (i noticed that the offside player ocasionaly leave the ball for the onside player)
Hope it gets better!

-New animations
-The crosses feels so natural. Eg. Try to do a stepover and do a cross it feels so realistic.
- Running is more realistc now. First they start running slow and then sprint
-Shooting meh. Let's wait for more games for a better judgment
-Fight for possesion is now shoulder vs shoulder and not chest vs head!

My initial impressions are so so. It's better than last year, but not by much. I definitely like the slower pace, but I think it's obvious at this point that more work has went into the next gen version on the Ignite Engine, which is unfortunate for PC users.

I mainly play FIFA for the Manager Career Mode and since it's been revamped it will justify my purchase until the PS4 version, but based on gameplay alone, I wouldn't be upgrading this year.

That said, I've always avoided online play cause of the run and shoot approach everyone seems to have on there, so if the new tempo ends up putting a stop to that it could be a great thing for the series.

I don't feel very comfortable with the control ... player movements are somehow out of control especially when you run ...

I have played a bit, movements animations are different, more natural, but looks like for me is harder to control the ball.

the one thing that is already putting me off is that you can't run at defenders any more, no double sprint!!! damn it (in fifa 13 you can do a double sprint by hitting the right stick twice so that the player put the ball far from him sprinting to the empty space) like this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l--MLKQbZtM Sad

Yeah EA have said they are trying to make people less reliant on speed as it's been getting abused online for years. This years game is going for more of a Barcelona style passing approach.

Yea, its a bit harder, but we will get used to it. Through ball is also a bit harder, there are more mistakes.

and playing against CPU feels way better. Looks like they can't "read" our minds like FIFA 13. Besides that he's making more faults so maybe i'll play CM this year.

Every year the same thing: players defensive is kind of a big hole, with some player stumbling around, standing to offensive and never come back fast enough. opponents defensive is a impenetrable, strong wall with superfast players who steal your ball magically and are always offensive and defensiv at once so you are always outnumbered. baeh!

rest of the new gameplay is very fun! the next gen version must be awesome.

Tried the demo (PC) and as regards speed and feel I actually quite like it.

To start off I have been using FIDELS database to lower all stats mod and sliders/product.ini changes for AI for months now so its from the perspective of that type of play & speed. Also using graphics mods.

Played the first game and instantly it felt much more like using mods to the game to get the weight and speed it I like, so its now much like it out of the box so that was surprising. I then put it to slow game-play and messed with sliders, I notice that sliders now dont need such drastic changes from default which is always a good thing. I cant wait for "too slow" complainers since they have been used to a game of speed ball last year

I like the new UI, cosmetic but it is nice, I like how you get visual reference to change formation quick with right stick from backing out to only one menu, what I didn't like was a bug that seems to decide that you cant change formation at half time!

The graphics do seem a little crisper and I dont think EA faces were there problem and they are looking pretty damn good. Not sure if its placebo but kits creases on player movement on replays and cut scenes seem more animated?

I notice the crowed (allbeit 2d) are now not that jaggy fuzz mess, and higher res, so now they are crisper cut outs rather than fuzzy cut outs, better than nothing for current gen.

The new commentator for game intro and replays is a nice touch but he does sound a bit "nice" .. but thats voice acting I guess.

I played AI v AI with sliders and one things for sure you wont have to resort to mods to suck out the right speed and feel so thats a plus point. As we have no online I cant speak for that, and there are many questions I have about modes before I think to buy this year, having said that I am impressed (or should I, seeing as it should have been this way anyway?) about game speed and overall look.

The rest remains to be seen and other people who buy on day one can answer the rest I dont think its something to tip me over the edge to purchase, as I really want to know what missing/changed/good/bad for other modes.

As a representative demo I think this year craps on last years (no celebration cut scene! ) at least all that's back in now.

ALSO: Im running on an older 2 CPU rig the same as last years and still only using XP and it works fine, FPS and performance is no different, I guess modding would be the same too.
