Question of the Week: The Euro Expansion in 2016

Reminds me a bit of the disabled people's Eurovision, one act wins, all other share the second place. Estonia would have a decent chance to qualify but it wouldn't be half as much as an achievement anymore.

Not a good idea, IMO. I think the EURO matches are generally a lot more entertaining than the WC ones, because there are more good teams playing each other. The WC's usually only get intresting with the second round/quarter final. The EURO's are intresting from the start.

I like it because I think Israel could get in relatively easily since they're probably in the 17-25th range in terms of best nation in Europe. But yeah, matches will be poorer. Athough that'd mean that we get to see the better nations more, since in the current one, one of Portugal, Holland and Germany, or maybe even two of them, will only play 3 matches.

I agree. In this EURO for example, yesterday we had GER Vs POR, today ITA Vs SPA, tomorrow we will have FRA Vs ENG. Much more entertaining than the WC group stage. Compare the EURO to the boring WC 2010 group stage.

I'd sum it up like this: Having all the teams playing in the final tournament is stupid, but so is just giving the trophy to the favourites. I think having half of UEFA is probably a normative idea more than anything. If anything, it'll probably increase the chances of not only fairytale qualification, but also possibly fairytale winners.

Diluting the most competitive regional cup is a terrible idea. It'll make qualifying more pointless and the big teams will basically have chances upon chances to qualify.

The appeal of the Euro cup is how it becomes interesting literally from day one. There's generally no easy games, and it takes an effort to qualify.

Not to mention that those teams on the outside looking in are rarely going to make a difference; the same big teams will wind up winning it time and time again. I know the Greece and Denmark stories, but with more teams to run through, it'll be much harder to do so.

The excitement of this year's competition should be enough evidence to suggest that a 24 team EURO probably won't be as good.

The positive side is that there will be more games to watch but many of these games would look like euro qualifying games.

I'm against, 8 more teams, while I barely miss any quality team in this euro + It doesn't make sense that 2/3 of the teams qualify to the next round. I guess Uefa wants to compete with Fifa but I go with Quality not quantity ;).

Well, some quality teams as Serbia or Belgium should get in now, but probably some second rate squads will participate as well.

...such as "tricolorii" maybe ??!:browsmiley:

Anyway my fair proposal is 48 teams instead 24.This way Malta, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Luxemburg will have their chances...

It will be such a delight to see a titanic clash in the final group stage at the next Euro 2016 between Azerbaidjan and Faroe wouldn't be?
