WC 2010 QF: Netherlands vs Brazil [P + R]

newbie original

We apologize for keeping the yellow too long
Yellow Card
The Dutch almost lulled Brazil to sleep and scored those two goals. They were nothing goals really.

De Jong and Van Der Wiel are out of the SF through yellow card accumulation. Two crucial players will be missing.

I couldn't believe Van Bommel wasn't carded... he consistently fouled his way through the game.

Have you never seen van Bommel play? That's his game. He fouls like crazy until he gets a card, and then he'll keep doing it. Usually he avoids seeing yellow somehow.

Journalist: "Do you think people will be more harsh with you than with the others due to the sending off?

Melo: "No. It is different to be sent off for punching another player, or spitting in someone else's face than for a normal play in the game (...) if you think about it, Pepe's tackle in the Portugal match was far more unsporting and the refree only gave him a yellow (...) Robben kept playing; if it was really an unsporting tackle, one to take him away from the match, he would not keep playing, for I am strong enough to break Robben's leg (...) I wanted to take the ball to start a counter (...) Maybe if Robben didn't playact as much as he did through the whole match I wouldn't have been dismissed. When Pepe tackled me he only got a yellow, maybe if I did three or four somersaults he would have been sent off. "

Only player I feel bad for is Dani Alves, he was brilliant.

If only somebody would tell him that he wasted more possession than anybody on the Brazilian team in this tournament by taking 40 yard shots every time he sees a goal.

He's got a point there. Robben spent 5 minutes on the floor clutching his knee, when the replays clearly showed that he got a slight touch on his ankle. 5 minutes later, after looking like his campaign is over, Robben got up and sprinted 15 yards for Sneijder's pass, which eventually ended up with a goal.

Say what you will about Robben's speed, dribbling and shooting, but he is one diving mofo and has to be the biggest cheat in this tournament. Brings down the reputation of the whole team.

You also missed the clear stamp from melo to robben. Yeah he might have dived, but does that give Melo the right to stamp on him while he's down?

100% deserved the red card

Yeah you're so absolutely right, Robben totally is a diving cheating mofo. I mean look at this:

I mean look at how he sells that red card to Melo. He totally should have had a yellow for simulating there.

Robben, what a prick.

Melo is an idiot. To say he could have broken Robben's leg if he wanted to, and the fact that Robben kept playing was reason enough not to have him sent off is just ridiculous.

anyway, congratulations Netherlands, hope you win it all.

Congrats to the dutch but this dutch team knows sh*t about total football. One of the most boring dutch teams to date BUTeffective. They just remind me of chelsea under mourinho.

No I didn't miss it. I never said that Melo shouldn't have been sent off. I was talking about the incident where Holland scored their first goal. And it was diving like that one that makes me feel that Robben deserves those stamps on him. He constantly provokes players and dives, so I don't feel sad one bit for him getting stamped by Melo.

Filipe was stupid and he self-destructed in the 2nd half, but it doesn't take away from the fact that Robben is a bitch.

PS. I was referring to the last quote from Melo, where he said "Maybe if Robben didn't playact throughout the whole match..." part. The sending off argument, I disagree with Melo.

Robben's diving has gone down tremendously this year, although he does still do it a lot, and he's still pretty selfish, but dammit, he's like the best player in the world.

I don't think Robben dived at all yesterday. If anything the Brazilians tried to kick him out of the game. I think it's no coincidence that Melo stamped down on Robben's left hamstring, which he injured just before the World Cup. He delibratly tried to injure him again there. Pathetic.

You probably won't bother, but if you can then find the replay of the freekick that led to Holland's first goal. Robben spent at least good 3 minutes on the ground clutching his knee, when during the tackle his actual ankle got brushed slightly. Then he got up and sprinted for that ball to pass back to Sneijder, who scored. Moments like these remind me why I don't want him to ever play for my team.

I'm happy to have him on my team, eliminating your team.
