So why does one of them have a Polish surname, and the other a Polish first name? Surely being born in Poland doesn't affect your family name, and as for Klose, that his first name isn't German suggests a far from undeniable link with the Fatherland...

A first name doesn't mean anything. As for Klose, I have no idea about his specific heritage, but he and his family were allowed into Germany under the German Heritage law which was set up after Germany was significantly diminished after both World Wars.

C'mon, even the German nationalist guy acknowledges it's no shame to have foreigners fighting for your country (not to say that only Cacau could reasonably be called a foreigner in Germany squad). Let's move on...

Oh, I totally agree, I'm not saying I'm against it, but I was just curious as to how that duo could be called completely ethnically German, to the level where someone on the previous page of this thread was having a go at commentator's wry comments about Lucas and Miroslav's non-German origins.

I think they're both 50/50, but particularly in that part of the world the borders have changed so many times in the last century that "true nationality" might not exist. Hell, Prussia was almost entirely in modern day Poland.

Further, Ozil and Tasci are natural born German citizens; if you deny them then you have to deny all of the Dutch players with parents from Suriname (Seedorf, Kluivert, Davids, etc) and all the French players with parents from all kinds of other places.

Well, yes. These are not dutch or french. :) At least, not ethnically speaking and that's what our führer lover friend was trying to say earlier in this thread.

Mhm, fair enough there! And I agree with you, the very concept of 'nationality" doesn't really stand up to any close scrutiny, especially in that area of the world, too... but best not think too hard about how little nationality means, that'd totally ruin our concept of World Cup :P

Great victory, since the begining Uruguay playing for the victory, lame strategy for Southafrica, just sitting and waiting for some counterattack chance and "see what happens", again an oustanding Diego Forlán, in southamerica we calls "clase A" to players like him, best player on the final of the Europa League scoring 2 goales like today, and a great match, not just a striker, Forlán is one of the best offensive players along with Rooney and Torres, but just Diego is now the "pichichi" of the WC ;)

appreciation for what ? they should be greatfull for having the honour to host such a big event in these conditions, and considering their arrogance and stuborness when asked to give up to this primitive behaviour of blowing in trompets and annoying milions of football fans then I think the anthipathy towards them is justified

For being the first ever African team to host the WC. They've made history by doing so. I don't like the vuvuzela but showing hatred towards a country just because they blow trumpets is just pathetic and childish.

What a disaster for Spain. I cannot believe they lost that game. I CANNOT believe it. Switzerland had no business even being in that game with them.

Ottmar Hitzfeld is one of the greatest managers ever.

Why? From what I watched (just the first-half), Spain spend half an hour exchanging passes 10/20m behind the penalty area and here and then they try something. Iniesta had one shot but he decided to throw himself in the ground, the consequent free-kick was no danger at all. Switzerland defended enough to not concede and then scored a fortunate, but legal goal.

1) No need to resort to insults. Nobody will take you seriously regardless of how much credibility your post has.
2) I believe it's their, not there.
3) Try writing with proper punctuation next time
4) You're from Manchester and your English has been corrected by a Pole whose English is a 3rd language
5) South America have noise makers which slam together but they're not slamming them for 90 minutes nonstop are they? Also, they are not drowning out the crowd noise and the commentators and approximating the stadium atmosphere to that of white noise. Want more? Fine. South American "slamming noise makers" are not 10Db above the human hearing pain threshold and thus not posing any health risks or the need for earplugs like the vuvuzelas. Finally, I don't recall players complaining about not being able to communicate as a result of the South American "noise makers".

Do us a favor and shut up before making stupid posts the one quoted.

Ye, some of the criticism is one big bigotry parade....I hate the vuvuzelas as much as the next guy but how is it SA's fault that teams are playing **** football including some of the countries people here are from....

Vuvuzelas aside and the stadium issues (people forget South Korea and Japan had worse issues with empty seats) its been a good world cup from an organizational point of view

i'm sorry but people who never get tired of blowing that thing 90 minutes 12 consecutive matches are nothing else but primitive, educated people would never behave that way.

yeah, seems they're more interested into partying so the leaders of SA tought they should bring them some pretext to blow the trompets

How could you be from Poland but yet be so harsh on up and coming people for no F***ing reason you prick!! Every country has its customs and ways of doing things no one is going to come to Poland and tell you not to put 'SKI' at the end of every name, so You shut the f*** up and write sensible stuff from now on.
