I think our optimal midfield would be Nani and Valencia on the wings, with Hargreaves holding in the middle and probably Carrick or Anderson pushing forward.

SAF said he is hoping Hargreaves will be ready for the final 3 group stage games of the CL...it would be great if that becomes a reality.

Ben Foster will start for United against Stoke City on Saturday as the Reds will be without Edwin van der Sar for a further three weeks.

Tomasz Kuszczak impressed between the sticks against Wolves on Wednesday, but Foster keeps his place for league duty against his former club.

Van der Sar, who suffered a broken hand against Bayern Munich in pre-season, isn't expected back until mid-October.

"Edwin is still three weeks away," confirmed Sir Alex Ferguson at his Friday press conference. "It was a good opportunity for Tomasz to play on Wednesday, but Ben will play against Stoke."

Can somebody please explain to me why is Foster still selected over Kuszczak?

he's better vs a team that will be boxing every play they make, headers, corners etc. Fosters more suited for such things. Also the fact that he played for stoke, he should in theory respond a lot better to the team. A bit like how he should of responded vs Tevez playing with him week in week out through training :innocent_smile_1: But yeah... Foster is the better choice for this game tactically speaking.
