So, what's with all the teams bringing B-squads to the Gold Cup? It's understandable that the US is doing it, being in the Confed Cup and all. But why are Mexico and Canada not bringing their best players? Is winning their regional championship THAT unimportant to CONCACAF teams when there's no Confederations Cup spot on the line? I hope that at least Central American and Caribbean teams will bring their best. They probably will, since this tournament means more to them than it does to the big two.

I was thinking the same thing, but at this point Mexico is sorely needing something new, so I think it's a good thing. All the same players called up continuously gets old, especially when they don't even get results.

I'm curious to see how the younger players will do. I'm hoping that we'll see more of Carlos Vela, Gio Dos Santos, Pablo Barrera and Omar Arellano. But I'm gonna be royally pissed if they just ride out the bench while god damn Oscar Perez, Gerardo Torrado, Omar Bravo, and Alberto Medina continue to get minutes and look mediocre.

Final US roster for the Gold Cup:

GOALKEEPERS- Jon Busch (Chicago Fire), Troy Perkins (IK Start), Luis Robles (FC Kaiserslautern)

DEFENDERS- Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Jay Heaps (New England Revolution), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Michael Parkhurst (FC Nordsjaellands), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock)

MIDFIELDERS- Davy Arnaud (Kansas City Wizards), Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Colin Clark (Colorado Rapids), Sam Cronin (Toronto FC), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Logan Pause (Chicago Fire), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew)

FORWARDS- Freddy Adu (AS Monaco), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Charlie Davies (Hammarby IF), Santino Quaranta (D.C. United)

...the f**k?

Heaps? Cronin? Evans? Pause? Pause???

What happened to Torres and Orozco?

Torres is better than Cronin, Evans and Pause COMBINED. I really hope this was a case of Pachuca refusing to let him go, rather than a coach's decision. You can say the same about Orozco, who makes Jay Heaps look like... well, Jay Heaps. Did we cap the two Mexicans just so Mexico couldn't use them in the future?

This isn't a B team, it's a C+ team at best. Only our center backs and forwards inspire confidence in me. I guess the starting line-up will look something like this:

--------------Perkins-------------

-------Parkhurst---Conrad--------
--'Dolo-------------------Pearce--

------------Beckerman------------
----Holden-------------Rogers----
---------------Adu---------------

-------Davies--------Ching--------

It's not that bad I guess, but we're going to have a hell of a time beating a full-strength Honduras or Costa Rica team with this bunch.

I have never heard of any of those midfielders. To me this seems like the perfect opportunity to call up Jermaine Jones and see what he can do, but I think German training camps open July 1, so he might have declined a Gold Cup call-up.

Oh, and I think in a month we will call this the "Tournament of Adu".

Beckerman is almost a lock to start, and he's our 9th-best central midfielder. Think about it, I'm not exaggerating. Adu will need to have a blinder.

This is the problem with MLS scheduling through these things, I think the coach may be afraid to take certain players because he doesn't want to badly weaken teams by taking too many.

To borrow a word from our English friends, I think Kljestan is "pants" as it is, I can't imagine how awful this guy Beckerman is.

Why is everyone so focused on the Gold Cup and no one even mentiones that the US is doing quite well in the Confederation cup? Isn't that supposed to be the tournament that means more to US soccer at this point?

Yikes, bloody night for MLS. Congrats to Wilmington, they run a nice operation out there, I like to see them do well.
