Specific improvements over FIFA 08?

Can anyone please list the things that are improve/updated from 08 except for the graphics?

Does the game play differently/better and if so, how?

Are there any improvements for any of the game modes?

If the game is just a graphical improvement, I think I'll skip it since I enjoy 08 and have the stadiums and graphics I want in the game. It really is a big disappointment for me that there are no new stadiums or manager mode improvements in 09 and I'm hesitant to buy it. Downloading it illegally is definitely not an option for me since I work for the FIFA team (without pay but that's not relevant).

So if guys who have played it a bit would give their input on the things they specifically feel are improved, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Just a quick reply I'm sure others can list the improvements. So far after playing it for a few days I've yet to see anything that makes me go WOW. I dont like the interface as much as 08 (everythings smaller) and the gameplay has changed so it is now easier to shoot from outside the box and score most times. Defences on World Class are easy to get around? You feel like you are playing on amateur.

The collision system is good which adds a new fun element however I would strongly suggest you wait a few months before purchasing so the bugs can be sorted and a few gameplay patches get released. I regret buying this so early and am considering reinstalling 08 to play again.

It will appeal to those not familiar with the series as they wont have played the others to death, I'm seeing a large amount of complaints in various forums and I am not one to complain much when it comes to games, FIFA 09 has so far been a disappointment

"be a pro" season mode has been fully implemented in to pc version along with "ball shielding" more skills and the ball physics are like the next-gen counterpart.
Yeah ! the game has some bugs which should have been fixed,but I like FIFA 09 and i think the mod community will soon improve on it 10-fold.

So they've dumbed the game down????

09 PC improvements

Did they change/add the generic faces? I'm kinda tired of playing teams of utter clones.

And how are the tricks? Easier or harder than 08? I never got the timing and co-ordination done to do them in 08 would be nice to have them usable.

Lastly, xbox wireless controllers supported? You had to start the game before connecting the controller for 08, which wasn't too bad. Other games like NHL though didn't support it at all.

1) Not sure... but the faces and body parts when viewed up close are very real! you even see veins.

2) easier in my opinion. not extremely easy, but not as hard as it used to be. (using a controller that is)

3) not too sure. i have a rumble pad 2 and i have to plug it in before i start fifa

4) yes, they are fantastic. They actually look like the screenshots... seriously. But zoomed out, in my one, the edges on the players are a bit jagged but still looks great. Its not like the fifa 07 rip off like 08 was. (mind you i still liked 08)

for pc, one of the biggest new things is the new control keyboard/mouse controls. after you get used to it, it allows for much more precision than the arrow keys ever did.

In terms of Champions League... Is the final game played at a neutral site with neutral crowd reaction? Can't understand how they keep missing that every year... Neutral!

For me 08 was the worst fifa ever, is just my opinion. A good mastered 07 was ten class over 08. The 09 is good in his structure. I mean, after fixing some bugs:
-hiting the crossbar is a nightmare, you have the chance to shoot under crossbar and the ball goes out, because the game and the image of the crossbar is not in the same place. If you like to see your strike bouncing from crossbar, is not the place anymore-after hiting the imaginary crossbar the ball remains over the goal like a bag of....
-the first touch pass is not something you want to try, specially in defence, because the players are trying to make an 1-2 even with the goalkeeper in crowded zone. If you make a head pass to a player, even you don't touch a button, there is a pass back to sender.
-sometimes, after you get caught in offside position you may get to see that YOUR striker is to one to execute the free kick, in front of a one man wall and nobody around. And that is a LARGE bug!
-the BIG reason i didnt play the 08 was that image of a striker running for goal with 3 defenders "attached" to him. Yeah, the stupid habbit remains!

But...

-The defenders are not so stupid like in 08.
-The shooting is better (not real, just improved). The EA stick to his ideea: power=high.
-The head duels are more real and the head finishing is more realistic.
-The BIG improvement: the AI opponent team is realy playing football, not that "zig-zag-no-ideea" like in 07. If your opponent is good, you can feel it!
-The goalkeepers are "in the game" fighting against strikers, not "furniture" like in 07.
-The fight is more realistic even the violence of a missed slide-tackle gives you the real thing.

I say, after CM and other fantastic tools are out, the 09 may be a good game. The AI.ini can be adapted for more speed, shooting accuracy or ball reaction. For me is time to put the 07 away.

My initial reaction to fifa 09 has changed since unlocking legendary mode. Its quite the challenge now and each game feels uncertain. To pull off a win against one of the big four was a pretty big deal and seems to be more enjoyable than previous fifa games.

I think the game developers are still extremely lazy when it comes to presentation upgrades though, despite the improved graphics the numerous bugs or small annoyances that remain from 08 really surprised me. eg opposition teams not playing their latest signings in Manager mode and cinematics unchanged. I actually falled for the inotion that next gen on PC meant graphics overhaul as well as presentation. This is more of a spit and polish.

Well, I got the opportunity to try the game out this weekend and I'm not impressed. As I suspected, it plays nearly identically to 08 and the really big improvement is in the player models, which are superb.

I have a rig capable of playing Crysis on very high settings and this game still doesn't look "right" graphically to me. The type of gloss effect that is prevalent is too shiny and cartoony for my taste and actually looks worse than 08.

The gameplay is good but almost exactly the same as 08. I did notice some differences though, more randomness occur like missed passes, missed ball receptions and headers aren't as accurate as before. Shots are slightly better and there looks like there are a bit more ways to score.

So in conclusion, here are my pros and cons:

Pros:
Great player models, tons better than in 08.
Gameplay is still good and some tweaks improve it slightly.

Cons:
"Better" graphics but not to my taste.
No new leagues or stadiums (unbelievable...).
Interface is more modern but still worse than in 08.

In its current state, this game is not improved enough over 08 to motivate a buy from me but I will be awaiting the release of various patches and mods that the community will provide and maybe then reconsider.
