Manchester United Thread [2008/2009]

From where I come from people just refer to Utd as "Manchester".
It always makes me smile.
Also I've noticed City fans have become quite smug now that they have so much money and one high profile player.
Why don't you wait until the end of the season, eh?
Anyway, I think Phelan was a good choice, too. Used to play for us and has worked his way up. Well done.
I always hate the international breaks, I want to see United play again.
Also I'm English and the England performances tend to depress me.

Indeed, over here when your talking about football and you say "Manchester" you mean United, otherwise you just say "Manchester City"...

Help?

Yep, Croatia doesn't understand why Manchester sometimes have the light blue jersey. hahahahaha
And there was one time that manchester seemed to have played against themselves, major confusion!

Ok all jokes aside, it really is going to take a lot to getting used to the idea of City being a big club.

Stop being a hypocrite Mikey, ManU have consistently broke the british transfer record in the past decade, and have aided in the inflation of prices (you just paid over the old british transfer record for Berbatov) and have actually spend more than Chelsea (and City, and Arsenal, and prolly Liverpool, and most of the world) in the past two years.

Why are you even worrying? It's Arse and Pool who should be worrying.

City won't finish in the top 4 this season and Hughes will be forced out.

Yeah, he'll be axed in the summer as soon as City fail to finish in the top 4 (which they probably won't - because the only top player they've actually added is Robinho)

Plus it'll be Chelsea syndrome - the boss will want a big name.

In any case this is the Manchester UNITED thread, and let's just let the bitters have their fun - I have calmed down somewhat over the initial shock.

We are still the European and Premiership Champions, we STILL have one of the best squads in the world and we have just added who is widely regarded as the final piece of the puzzle - Dimitar Berbatov.

With all that said, Bring on the World!! Starting with the Scousers we'll take em all down!

we earned that... not from billionaire owners.

Ade mate, IF that was true do you really think anyone gives a toss? No one cares anymore in this day and age where the dosh comes from as long as it comes. It amazes me that you lot and the gooners continually spout this irrelevant drivel about "self made" wealth.

Perhaps it might be the case these days perhaps not, but once upon a time one of the richest men in England kick started the club that is Manchester United. Without that benefactor Manchester United would not exist today. That is fact and is an accepted piece of your history.

OK so many years later other clubs also get that same kick start that is so important to progress, but you mancs don't like it.

What's good for the goose huh?

I'm ashamed to say I don't know the full story about the formation of United. I was under the impression United was born from a previous club going bankrupt and a group of investors coming together scraping by to form the new club Man U. Sound's like I'm wrong from what your saying.

That's pretty much it. Manchester United was born after Newton Heath LYR ran into financial problems. Believe it or not it was a dog that caused the investor to meet the chairman! Shortly after that the club rose as Manchester United the name (among other names, Manchester Celtic was considered) after being voted unanimously.

In more modern terms, it was flotation on the stock market that really allowed Man Utd to become more wealthy, then they kick started the merchandising and marketing trend too.

With the birth of the breakaway Pemier League, and the advent of Sky's millions - the game became a magnet for big business as well. United were often at the forefront of new endeavours.

Haha, it was you who started moaning in the first place. If you hadn't posted your end of the world thread, you wouldn't be in the position of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4rMA_Ehen4

You can take that how you wanted - I felt I had a legitimate point, fair enough I didn't voice it too eloquently.

Side note: Thought the England game was dire last night. Wayne really looks out of sorts at the moment.

Damn it - I want some United football, I'm suffering withdrawal here!
