The Torres goal did show el nino's ability to score out of nothing, but Lehmann was at fault in some sense I think. I thought Lahm had the pace to cope with Torres instead of shielding the ball.

You cant really blame Lahm, he was trying to shield the ball, but Torres quick changed sides, kind of breaked Lahm cleverly, while switching lanes behind him.

I'm not blaming Lahm here, its obvious he shielded the ball because Lehmann(who probably called out) was coming.
Lahm probably would've cleared the ball or run it out if Lehmann didn't call out.
just an opinion of what i think.
but take nothing away from Fernando. great finish.

edit: Shifty, my thoughts exactly. :D

Congrats to Spain. They were awesome all tournament. Would have one by more than 1 if Fab stayed on longer. Am I the only one who sees something wrong with nationalized players playing for other countries?? I mean what does it take to play for another country other than your own??? Every country in the world should just take in a few Brazilians and it will improve their game.

pretty much every country has a Brazilian at this point...except Italy, they've got an Argentinian

Lahm had the positioning on Torres, and should have closed him down. He should get more of the blame than Lehmann, unless he(Lahm) was injured...

I must say that this is a much different German team than the one which hammered Portugal in the 3rd place game at the WC. That team was bubbling with confidence and could attack all game long. This one was quite unable to force itself on its opponent the way that team was able to. Somewhere along the way they lost their swagger and just never resembled that team from 2 years ago.

I predicted that Germany would win the tournament easily.....the way things turned out, I would have taken a hard fought win....they never came close.

I remember that guy David Odonkor being quite impressive as a substitute during the WC. He didn't play a second this year....perhaps that would have changed things. Loew said, after the semi-final win, that the pressure was off them. They seemed to sit back far too much, in the final, and only tried to get going much after they conceeded, not something I saw from the 2006 WC team.

Well there was a situation in the german team, one of the phsyics- headcoaches said something about mistakes, that had been done in the preparations, so the whole team wouldnt be at their max conditions. This might explain the different performances. But in the other hand it really doesnt matter anyhow, every bad loser has some excuses.

He did come on against Croatia and well ... he proved why many think he's the worst player to ever represent Germany. It's a shame Marko Marin got cut from the squad prior to the tournament, he's a classic winger with outstanding technical ability. Oh well, we'll see him in the future (and no doubt people will complain that he's not born in Germany lol).

Wow, this is still so unreal. I'm soo glad that Spain finally won again. They deserved it.

And now I can't wait for the new La Liga-season.

Help?

Congrats to Spain, absolutely deserved title. I just wish they wouldn't cry so much after every little touch. The referee didn't really help the Germans either, what was that call in last play of the game, when Casillas ended up taking a freekick somehow? And 7 minutes earlier, in the box where Iniesta, i think, was supposedly kicked as he lay screaming clutching his ankle, while the replay showed that nobody touched him at all and infact there was no foul which should have led to the German goal.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter now, the referee was definietly on the Spanish side today, but apart from that the Germans never really posed much threat and they were well closed down by Senna and Puyol, ******* great players, Gattuso style. Torres also showed just how fast he is, as the German defense looked really really slow and lost at times. Metesacker was just not in Vienna tonight. I just wished that the final would be a little more exciting as we got lots of quality games in this tournament, but i guess you can't expect too much from organized (not today) German team and counter-attacking Spanish team.

I also didnt understand, why Löw axed Jones instead of Trochowski. Also his subs didnt really grip and tactically he wasnt always lucky neither. Funny, we made our best game while Löw was sitting behind glass (Y)

The best and most consistent team won. Fully deserved. (Y)

Senna and Casillas were great, as through out the tournament. Definitely the best.

The whole squad was amazing. Xavi was just voted player of the tourny, Villa = pichichi, Torres came up with the huge goal, Puyol, Ramos destroyed, and well...everyone was on key. The talent and depth of our squad is absurd. I really hope this carries into the World Cup!

Oh, by the way, I think Aragones has to be given much credit.
The players made it look easy but he was behind all of this. Great moves, great handling of Torres, great tactician imo. Finally noone is giving him a hard time for not including Raul. It was a good move to leave Raul out imo. As much as I love Raul, this team he put together is the ideal squad. A dream team of sorts.

Yea, it's really no use to take a player like Raul in your squad and keep him on the bench. The team was pretty much perfect the way it was, as there were no big setbacks. If Puyi had really injured in the group stage (can't remember what match), it would've been much harder for Spain. Albiol played for 30 minutes, and already the defence looked shaky.

Underachievers no more, finally Spain will be considered a serious threat, not just a good team.

It was really awesome to see all the celebrations throughout Spain on TVE. From Pontevedra to Bilbao to Madrid to Barcelona, everyone cheered and celebrated our trophy. It's refreshing to see the overwhelmingly majority of people celbrating as a country and leaving aside regional politics, etc. The unity of the squad really reflected that of the country. Nice to see Aznar so thrilled and also nice to see our King celebrating like a hardcore fan! :bouncy: Very atypical of royalty but very fitting. You can see how much this meant to the country.

The whole team has to be commended. and special congrats to Xavio for being chosen as best player in the tournament. He's a monster of a player.

Hahahahaha, VIVA!!!!

Casillas is by far my favorite player on Spain, but Torres, Senna, Puyol, Silva, Cesc (although pretty bad in the final), Villa, and Xavi are all phenomenal. Great team for sure.

Well deserved victory for the Spaniards. Outside of the first 15mins, I thought that the Germans were utterly toothless and pathetic. It was really shocking to see how terribly devoid of ambition they were in making meaningful attacking plays in the second half, man.

My players of the tournament.....Casillas and Ramos.....that kid was just a GOD of his domain. He was very aggressive, sound tactically and awe-inspiringly flawless in his challenges....his tackling is almost as impeccable as guys like Zanetti, Nesta or Lucio....what a joy to watch, man. I also loved the runs he made down his flank and into the box....this kid must've had aspirations to be an offensive player at one point....is he a converted winger or something?

Anyway. Casillas was the best player of the whole tournament. He was just so commanding and completely in control of his box. His wickedly timed interceptions of balls into the danger zone was amazing to watch.....what a display of immense skill and confidence!
