Group C: Italy vs. Romania [P+R]

luck is really a bitch isn't it. currently, we seem to have none of it.

refs obviously **** the bed on this one. perfectly good goal, disallowed, human ******* error ****s us again. the swedish ref can magically "see" panucci injured but the norwegein refs can't call an offside. did i miss something in european history when the italians raped and pillaged the nordic countries. really frustrating.

on the game, we created more than enough chances to walk away with the game but again we can't finish. the only difference between the dutch and us is their finishing. they are absolutely lethal and scary. but props to lobont he played unreal.

again we gave up too many chances at the back. its taking us too long to close down space and having another new system, it shows in the midfield when you see them confused.

first half romania had some great chances with a couple lucky and unlucky bounces but we took over for the last 20 and were unjustly unrewarded. second half we took over but again leaving alot of chances going the other way. these can easiliy be avoided with some changes to tactics.

the penalty...debateable. alot of that has been going on in the tourney but only to be called now is to be harsh. BUT GOD BLESS GIANLUIGI BUFFON. unbelieveable. great reaction but terrible pk by mutu. thought he was tearing up. tough spell for him.

whatever will be will be. need to bring it vs france, we know them well enough to.

win and we are in cause i do not see romania even beating the 2nd string dutch team the way they are finishing. they are magic.

UEFA has something against Italy . After a team wins the World Cup , everybody tries to do all they can to stop them winning the European Championship . I don't understand why UEFA try to do this to . I think it's because they consider football would be boring if the same team wins both of them . It it's that ...it's stupid . Or maybe they don't know how to choice the refs ...or maybe they know to well how to do it , but against Italy .

And you guys should make the difference :

That was the only time in history and after that , France didn't passed the groups on World Cup 2002 . I think it's true what they say : After you win a World Cup or an European Championship ...or both of them if you are lucky , you have lose your motivation ...

I think Germany won it the other way around. 1972 and 1974.

Well then if it's a loss of motivation it's not the ref's fault.

France and Italy have stars but they're beyond their prime. That's the reason why they both got pwned. Not just by the gapping hole that Holland left them with, but they both almost lost to Romania. They need to blood younger talent; I was asking myself where the hell Benzema and Nasri was. And Quagliarella, he even got a lucky bacio from one of the girls that invaded their traning camp, ffs.

Whereas the Netherlands have stalwarts in the form of Van nistelrooy and Van der Sar it was the relatively younger players in the middle of the park that made the difference.

Both of them . The refs has mistaken , but the Italians didn't do nothing about it because of the lost of motivation .

What the hell happened in this thread? Anyway, tough luck for Italy. Onside goal disallowed, soft penalty call, poor finishing again I mean nothing went our way. I guess you can make the argument that it would have been a different game had Toni's goal stood and Italy had gone in at halftime with a 1-0 lead. However, I think Italy had plenty of chances to put it away but couldn't because of poor finishing and an impressive performance from Lobont. Fair play to Romania, nice counter-attacking, was one hell of a game. We can't worry about this draw or make excuses anymore, it's in the past. We need to move on and hope we can stick it to the French.

Frankly, it was a great game but I, being a Romania fan am greatly disappointed. In my eyes we clearly were the more concise team and we really should have deserved to win this game. Italy looked scrappy while we looked very solid, and I am sad we couldn't put this match away just because of bad luck

It kind of saddens me to hear that we only got one point with referee help because that is not true. Romania played great and they even deserved to win. They were much more determined than the Italians and we had far better chances to take the lead...we only lacked luck...Italy fans should really suck it up because all the fouls I thought were fair and they mustn't cry just because for ONCE in their history the refs decided to actually give the smaller team a FAIR chance. But now unfortunately we will have to do it the hard way and hopefully Holland will take it easy...

I was surprised at how the lads played because they did not sit back and defend and when they attacked they were also very concise as well...if we only can have one small brush of luck for once in so many years....

it was a clear offside, if you look at our player he is one leg in front of the italian one, the romanian had one leg in the air and one in front of the italian, this makes the italian being in a offside position.

italy had 4 shots on target, 10 shots wide...

im not gonna go on about the disallowed goal, its in the past, but all i can say is watch the replays again.

and after the saved penalty, im pretty sure we continued to put romania under fierce pressure, carving up some chances. while you waited for a counter to take another shot from 30 yards out.

And if you remember in the Euro 2000 game, Hagi was sent for no reason, only after that you scored the lucky 2 goals ..... so we're pretty even from this point of view.

I vividly remember an Italian fan being interviewed (in his Kappa Italian tracksuit) after EURO2000(or WC 2002) and saying that it was typical that no one could stop the Italians and that they were, as usual, sc***ed by the refs.

Somehow, that is the first thing that I think of when Italy loses at these major tournaments. WC 2002, EURO 2004 and now EURO 2008(?)........all involved controversial refereeing in favor of the Italians' opponents.

dont doubt that at all. i know alot of people who only watch major tournaments and always say italy get screwed this and that blah blah blah and it is annoying.

but in defence of the fans how can you blame them. it seems every tournament we have atleast one good goal disallowed due to an incorrect offside. when i see it happen to other teams, like spain in WC02 or even the austrians vs poland, i empathize cause i know how it feels. its a bitch.

and to adialex, we must have been watching two different games. just took a look at uefa.com's stats and everything is same except for corners and possession, both in our favour. and 2 or 3 of your "shots on target" were from 30 yards or free kicks in the first 20 mins of the game.
