USA vs. an Obscure and Mysterious Island Nation Across the Sea [R]

England 2-0 USA, FINAL
Blanco: 4 goals, 7 assists, MOTM

You know what's sad? Eddie Lewis was our best player tonight. :(

Maybe we should have played McBride too, seeing as how our geriatrics are outperforming our young guns.

I hate you England. Not only did you far out perform us, I had to go to a place with fish and chips as the special just to see the game. Not good, I hate you.

My player ratings:

Howard - 7

Pearce - 5 (some bright moments, some mistakes)
Bocanegra - 5 (worse than usual)
Onyewu - 6 (defended reasonably well)
Cherundolo - 5 (see Bocanegra)

Beasley - 6 (considering he was coming back from injury, not bad)
Bradley - 5 (stronger in the first half, lost concentration in the second)
Clark - 5 (unlike Bradley, he was consistently mediocre throughout the game)
Dempsey - 6 (some good touches)

Wolff - 4
Johnson - 4

Subs:

Guzan - 7
Hejduk - 6 (upgrade over Dolo)
Five-dollar footlong from Subway - 8 (pretty good deal)

would be interesting to see what a British team could do though. Back a few years ago having giggs, keano etc on the same team would of done wonders.

Our country is so small when not united. But I guess the same thing can be said about Portugal, Netherlands & they do ok. I guess we would all do a lot better though if we were the size of Germany, France, Italy etc.

and here's a map with the 4 countries. The white line's split them.

Weird how there's so much segregation over a place so small. In England itself the accent changes so much from the south to the north. In fact from my home town to the next town or village just a few miles away the accent changes hugely. But then your could dump that all in one state like New York in America, thats when you realise how small England is. God knows how were expected to compete in things like the Olympics, at least that includes the UK instead of the individual nations. Seems somewhat like cheating, Portugal and Netherlands etc still have to go at it alone.

Anyway i've gone way off topic :D rant over
A few of things: Your map showed FIVE, not 4 regions..Im guessing you forgot to look at the white line between the Republic, and Northern Ireland.

Secondly, in a UK team (which has been spoken about in regards to the Olympics etc), Roy Kean would never have played for them, because he is from the Republic of Ireland.

Third: the reason that they are represented as one in the Olympics, is because technically they are one country. Ask the UN, or look up who is the 'BRITISH' Prime Minister (meaning also PM for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales)...Scots, the Welsh and even the Northern Irish may not consider themselves under English rule any longer, but they are all part of the United Kingdom, which gets one vote in any UN decisions, like any other country...

Haha, in fairness you did make a great effort to explain it, and I just chose the lazy way and threaten everyone :)

at least now they know!

Beckham's crossing was incredible BTW, that free-kick in the first half that was disallowed was stunning.

Sorry it was a map extracted from Google images that showed the 4 regions. It was only to illustrate the regional borders which it did. Forgive my fifth regional error, I should of been more descriptive and state the obvious.

You just love to highlight my mistakes don't you :D. Again the point was to show if we had a united side we could hand pick from a bigger talent base, i.e. Giggs, Weir, Carroll, Healy etc well maybe not all them specifically, but you get the idea :D

Now that's interesting. So why is it Fifa allow us to be 4 countries? I guess this is why there worried if they use a British team, it may have a influence on the world cup?

A British Football team will be a bigger disaster than even the English Football team!

FIFA allows all 4 regions independent representation because each has their own FA. FIFA goes by FA jurisdictions, not political boundaries. It's just that those two things almost always coincide. That's also the reason that the vatican and monaco, despite being independent nations, doesn't field their own national sides (though that would be rather funny).
