MLS Thread 2007

Plans for the renovation/expansion:

Capacity is expected to be around 12,000. Hopefully that leads to a lot of sold-out games and a packed stadium.

Cool. Buck Shaw is a nice little stadium.

Plus it's grass, which makes it better than New York, New England and Toronto.

Hahah wow the Fire are up 2-0 (3-0 on agg.). I guess I was wrong not giving these guys a chance. Shows how much I really know about the MLS.

If hell happens to frezze over and the RBNY pass the Revs i say i should consider the Fire a far more affordable team to handle than DC. At least for us. :(

I thought you guys were out of your minds when you picked DC United over Chicago. The Fire advancing was pretty much a foregone conclusion for me.

'Rash... I'm sorry it always has to end this way.

After failing to get through the first round in the playoffs Bruce Arena quit as Red Bulls coach.

Capello: offerta in arrivo dagli Stati Uniti

Wow, apparently Trapattoni has mentioned Capello being on our radar to coach the team. 'Alternatives' seem to be Mourinho and Klinsman. Damn i don't really know how truth there is in it but that sounds like serious business. Eventually Mourinho and Klinsman are also keen on getting charge of the Galaxy team.

Tremendous news for the league if these rumours are true. :D

The Revs are in the final for the third straight season beating the Fire 1-0 tonight. I'm almost positive they will choke again. They're the Bills of the MLS.

Gullit named Galaxy manager.

WTF is this one legged semifinal bs? I really don't get the MLS standarts. The quarters were a 2 game thng and the more important semis are decided by a single game?

MLS playoffs are definitely flawed, but I believe their reasoning is this: two legs in the quarterfinals gives the better team a chance to advance and is supposed to give the 1 seed a greater opportunity to not be upset by a 4 seed. Then, I would say the semifinals is designed to give the upper seed another advantage by playing a one-off game at home. Obviously, it doesn't make sense. I think it will just take some time to develop a good system, just like the early days with the overtime shootouts and what not. The problem is creating a playoff system that makes the regular season and seeding important. However, it is pretty difficult to do that because two legs doesn't give either team an advantage and with seeding, 1 vs. 4 is not a big gap in team ability in the MLS. For those fans who think they should adopt the format of pretty much every other league in the world and don't have playoffs, at this point I think the MLS knows that Americans like playoffs and they choose to have them to draw more media attention to the league and the sport. They are in a difficult spot and I don't really know how they could do it better, but they should have either one leg or two legs for the whole thing, except the final (which would be one).

I am a bit surprised at the Gullit appointment, but I think it's overall pretty good for the league. If LA sucks again though, it will be a disaster. It is a strange position to have possibly the future of the league balanced on the success of one team. However, if LA is successful under Gullit, we can continue to expect big-name players and managers at a faster rate.

Really? Then how come pretty much every season attendance drops for playoff matches and ESPN has 0 coverage? I think a single table to decide the champion would be awesome.

The only reason why the conference semifinals are played over two legs is to ensure every playoff team gets to play at least one playoff match at home.

There, end of story. Happy now?

And as I was saying.. I agree with this. I'm just commenting on their point of view.

RUUD GULLIT IS COMING TO AMERICA (H)

So estatic!!!

LOL, mate, i feel sorry for Gullit.

He must have it pretty bad and he must be pretty desperate if he came to the MLS.

Plus, he was part of the famous Dutch triad, he's never been fantastic at coaching!

Only at playing midfield/forward! ;)
