Additional Goal Referees-FINALLY!!!

FIFA are planning to use 2 additional referees on each net now to solve the goal problem. Michel Platini has a lot to do with it. It'd be a hell of a lot easier just to use replays then employ 2 extra refs but maybe they can spot incidents that the linesman and match referee don't see. They're gonna try it at the Club World Championships. They're also gonna use goal line tech at that same tournament.

Here are the details:

Yeah let's crowd the field with referees. You know what why not take 22 referees with each referee following one individual player.

Platini is stupid.

If they're can't be bothered to use 'technology' then why not just get ONE additional ref to review stuff on replay like goals or shady penalties, etc like they have in hockey or rugby with tries. Or like American rugby referees that have those replay cameras on the field. On the other hand, they probably couldn't be bothered to do that either.

Having two additional refs for that purpose doesn't make much sense, why not use a chip on the ball as in other sports?

They could be useful if the accuracy in penaltys and other (sometimes difficult to judge) decisions would increase, though.

Probably because even with replays at times it's very hard to determine the call and pretty much we don't want the game to have long stops or to be cut every 3 seconds.

But then again i think the effort is useless after all complains for referee calls exist in almost every sport.

From what I see on Match Of The Day every week the game keeps getting stopped for about a minute with contentious decisions with all the players having a go at the ref, if we're gonna 'waste time' lets at least do something constructive with it!

But i guess that's a different issue, the players attitude towards the ref tends to be negative even if the referee has a good performance.

By the way, didn't they test the "chipped ball" in the U17 World Cup Peru '05?

So let me get this straight...

There will be two extra referees standing on the back line for each net, waiting and waiting, mathematically having to make a (not 100%) decision every 10 games or so?

Yep, and gettin paid for it too probably. If these retards decide to make this mandatory globally then small federations without much capital are a bit screwed. And I think the two refs other job could be to act as an additional pair of eyes for the referee to spot 'incidents' or to tell the referee when a player has dived for a penalty etc but you know they won't ever do that.

Having the fourth official review contentious calls on a TV for things like WCs and CL matches is a MUCH better way of doing things.
