Are Konami = PES A One Trick Pony !

Are they a one trick pony? how many footballers have we seen over the years that look amazing but after seeing them game after game you see them for what they are, a one trick pony.

Are Konami the same in terms of PES, year after year after year things are added the next taken away but its the same game underneath all the time.

While this was ok as far as it went with the PS2 and later the PC, these days with the new consoles and the PC it will not do.

The game has remained the same because the game engine has never changed, for its part it didn't really need to as it could handle the PS2. The one thing about keeping the old engine it meant that there was a base game that could be tweaked every year.

As I said, things added one year taken away the next but for the most part the game got better a little each year. Though some will not agree and say it never got any better after PES3.

Now that we have these new powerful consoles and the PC which was alway powerful anyway, the need for a new game engine was there for all to see.

But have Seabass and his team been in a comfort zone for so many years now with the old engine that ran the game on the PS2, that they are so set in the ways of the old engine that they are loathed to change.

The bottom line , if they keep sticking to this old engine or just adding to it and not building a new gameplay engine for this generation of consoles and PC, then the game will never take the leap from the old generation of gamplay of the PS2 to the next generation of PS3 360 and PC.

For all of the shine of PES2008 and some of its new tricks, underneath is the same old game and the old "flaws quirks" that were there then are still here in PES2008.

The game will never truely move on until they build a new game engine that can fully utilise the power of the PC PS3 and 360.

It takes time build a new game engine that can fully utilise the power of PS3 360 mate ...atleast the tweaks in PES 2008 are noteworthy...

I think Konami are working on a new engine in the background while updating there old engine to release PES 2008...kind of experimentation...development takes time so all i can say is that have more patience ;)

I completely agree. That is the main problem that I've had the last two years with PES, it has the same gameplay engine. I was fine with it for like 4 years or so, with a few tweaks, but I know the computer AI like the back of my hand, we also get fed with the same master league format, aswell as all the other cups and leagues year after year, I'm just plain bored of it.

I downloaded the new demo on my 360 last night expecting big changes from last year's attempt and I was very disappointed. Feels almost exactly the same as PES2006 and I'm quite frankly bored of the gameplay that I ave been playing for the last 6 years, graphically it is very disappointing too, hardly any real improvement from last year, I won't be getting this game, I am sick of playing De Ja Vu year after year.

I loved the new Fifa demo, new engine carried over from last year, with alot of improvments, true next gen graphics and once you take all assists off for passing crossing shooting etc, the gameplay feels very realistic. I recommend buying Fifa this year.

yeah I agree there. I am a FIFA fan at heart but I always loved playing Pro Evo cause it was just so different and yeah much more realistic. But this year it seems the two games have switched! I could see it happening on 07 next-gen and now it seems 08 is just the true simulation. It's get everything now.

I don't know what to do with myself...I'm most likely buy FIFA 08 for my lovely 360 and play PES2008 now and then. I just don't like the fast gameplay and arcade-quickness in scoring.

Agree...it's de ja vu. I won't be buying PES this year and I won't miss playing it.

I've played the FIFA08 demo too and won't be buying it either.

2 football games, 2 crap games. It's so disappointing.
