EA has explained why the PC version is current-gen:

http://fifa2008.wordpress.com/official-faq/

Will the PC have next-gen gameplay and graphics and if not, why not?
The gameplay engine that we’ve build for the Xbox 360 and PS3 is designed for multi-threaded, multi-core consoles. This is a significantly larger amount of power than even the top-end PCs on the market right now. Unlike many FPS titles that scale through dropping down the graphics detail, most of the power is used for the gameplay to calculate AI, animation, ball physics etc – we can’t drop the number of players!.

We have done tests that show that our new gameplay engine takes up to 34 times the CPU power of the CG gameplay engine. In other words, there are very few PC’s available in the market that could run a next-gen FIFA 08 gameplay engine.

Instead, we’ve focused on innovating and polishing the gameplay on the current-gen engine for FIFA 08 PC. We’ve also improved the graphics and added 8-player LAN this year.

'end of quote'

If even the high-end PC's can't run the next-gen engine then EA surely won't use it next year either.

Let's say that 5% or 10% has a PC that could run it,.. then next year 15%-maybe 20% could it.
In terms of money, EA would wisely choose an engine 95% of the PC owners can handle.

Acutally we need another evolutionary stage of this engine .. not just a 1:1 adapted NextGen console engine... but a new development compatible with the technology that a normal PC can provide ... of course that is more expense;)

A little sloppy action by EA Sports (as usual) .. there are of course other games, fe. the new PES 2008, that combines nice graphics with a smooth and realistic gameplay .. even for the latest PC technolgy.

Nope,.. P4 3,0 is recommended. It's not even near the minimum requirement wich will probably around 2,2 or 2,4.

EA is just telling us that they optimized it for 360 and ps3 and they don't care about the PC owners.

EA should have thought about "PC could be next-gen in 2 or 3 years" when they designed the engine,.. like Konami did 2 years ago.

EA will lose the PC battle if you ask me.

Dude, if most PC's out there can run PES 2008 WHICH AS EVERYBODY KNOWS IS NEXT-GEN, surely we can run FIFA. I mean PES is a much more complex game than FIFA.

The thruth is that the lazy @ssholes of EA just don't want to actually try to put together something good. They think they've made HUGE changes just by changing the kits. And why is that? Because there are people in this world that contine buying FIFA for PC every year thinking it will be an entirely different game compared to the year before...if we could boycott them, that would serve as a wake up call. From the PC perspective, PES now has the PERFECT chance to win over MANY fans for PC.

What made me laugh was that earlier this year they said 08 was going to be the final game for PS 2. In that interview, they said "the PS2 still has a very long life left"!!! HAHAHAAHAH!!!!

What EA are really saying is that they think they will make more money by making their game available to more people (those with old computers, ps2 or xbox).

But they aren't stupid, and I think they will realise that in 2009 the only smart decision will be to release only one version (next-gen).

In fact I have a feeling that they will release the EURO 2008 game on Next gen on all platforms.

Since they "upgraded" fifa07 into a patched one for 08.. i guess they used the 08's money budget for starting a new next-gen version for PC... I doubt any company can do a new brand game engine in a single year.

System Specs of a 360 and a PS3

360 Specs
Processor: IBM PowerPC CPU with 3x 3.2 GHz each
L2 Cahce: 1 MB
Video Card: ATI 500 MHz
RAM: 512 MB UMA, 10MB eDRAM embedded video memory

PS3
7x SPE
Processor: 3.2 GHz
L2 Cache Per SPE: 512 KB + 256 KB
Video Card: NVidia 550 MHz
RAM: 256 MB XDR, 256 MB video memory

Basically in Computer terms you need a...
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 ghz or better
AMD x2 athlon 6000+
2GB DDR2 RAM
Series 7,8 Nvidia Cards
ATI x1900xt

To play their games. Now if you could get a poll going to see who acutally has their computer near this then you will see why EA made their decision on not to make their game next gen graphics.

Dudes, PES 2008 is not Next-Generation at all! It's in the middle between current and next. Simply look at the very differences between xbox360 FIFA 08 screens and PES 2008 PC ones. PES 2008 does not reach FIFA next-gen at all at the moment. About the FIFA 09 I ensure you that FIFA 08 is the last current-gen game...Moreover FIFA 09 will be a true next-generation game, maybe even better than xbox360!!!

If I would earn one dollar for every time someone ensured me the exact same last year I would be a millionair by now.
