Kieron Dyer has suffered a suspected broken leg during West Ham's Carling Cup tie with Bristol Rovers.

The midfielder, who was making just his third start for The Hammers since joining from Newcastle earlier this month, was stretchered off in the 13th minute at the Memorial Stadium.

Dyer crumbled to the ground following a challenge with Joe Jacobson on the right-hand side and immediately looked in severe pain.

The England international has been taken to hospital for scans but West Ham fear he has broken both bones in his lower leg.

West Ham have already seen fellow summer signing Julien Faubert ruled out until next year with a ruptured Achilles tendon and Dyer looks likely to join him on the sidelines for an extended period

So, will West Ham get any luck with their transfer signings ? Faubert was injured terribly, and now Dyer breaks two bones in one of his legs. Taking into account the terrible transfer dealings of Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez, it looks like West Ham aren't too lucky with their transfers. And now West Ham are reportedly in negotiations to take Adriano on loan, is it a good idea ?

if there's good quality pussy and nightlife in that part of London, then Adriano is there.

Anyway, yeah....jokes aside. You could probably make a decent case for an in form Adriano as being the best striker around in the game today, man....he's about as gifted physically as they come....as dominant and bruising in the air as he is with the ball on his feet.....but his motivation and hunger for the game at the moment isn't nearly where it should be, man....he's definitely worth the risk, but I doubt that he rates WH that highly, or is even aware of their existence.

If I was Alex Ferguson, maybe I'd take the risk on Adriano. He has a reputation for taking controversial players, and making them work. I can't imagine him slacking off under Ferguson. But maybe he is a lost cause ? If he goes to West Ham and bangs a few goals in, maybe he'll have a future at Inter, or another top club. I think Adriano should go to Real Madrid personally, I think he'd bang the goals in, in La Liga.

I don't think Real necessarily NEED Adriano. But Baptista could be offloaded before the end of the window, Soldado isn't upto standard in my opinion. Higuain is still asserting himself. Raul, Saviola and Robinho are top standard, but inconsistent. I always felt Adriano could fill the void left by Ronaldo. But I'm not Real's manager I guess.

West Ham are just horribly mismanaged. Paying that much for Dyer is a joke in the first place. Adriano would be a blessing for them.

I really wouldn't be surprised if this injury ends his career. His luck with injuries is awful, and for West Ham to pay £6.5m for him is just silly. Are the physios being underworked there? What was Curbishley thinking anyway, bringing Dyer to the same side as Bowyer and Bellamy. Anyone remember the fight between Bowyer and Dyer? Curbishley certainly seems to have forgotten about it.

^^ searing pain just shot up my left leg after seeing that pic, man......I've got damaged and defective shins/ankles from both soccer and basketball.


Let's hope that it's a clean break and nothing too messy for the poor bastard, man.

When it happened in realtime it looked innoccuous, but you could tell it was more serious when Dyer was screaming and thumping the floor. I knew his leg was broken when they strapped on that orange lifejacket type thing (like an inflatable bag around his leg)

Watching in slo mo (on frame by frame on my DVDR) I could see Jacobson's leg just cut Dyer's almost in half.

However I don't think for a second that Jacobson tried to "do" him, in fact it first looked like Jacobson had lost balance in the tussle and had tripped over Dyer's leg. As they said on TV, 9 times out of 10 Dyer's foot would have swung up and away with Jacobson's leg however the damage was done because Dyer's foot was planted firmly in the turf.

Obviously I feel for Kieron because of the pain and the long arduous recovery process that once again awaits him, but I also feel a bit for Jacobson. I'm sure anyone who's ever played football could understand what he must be feeling - to know that he was (accidentally I'm sure) responsible for inflicting a horrific injury on a fellow player.

I have a very nasty feeling that West Ham may pursue the issue further - possibly legal proceedings. I hope that once the anger Curbishley rightly feels (about the loss of Dyer, not the challenge) subsides then cooler heads will prevail. Because given his comments last night, I don't think West Ham will let it go as an accident.

Obviously I wish him a speedy and full recovery, his luck with injuries is awful.
