i must be a an asshole but i don't feel anything
i can't be sad for a person who lived a good life when there's thousands of people dying in ways that i can't even imagine. who gives a s*** about all the people dying of starvation ? no one. but a player dies and everyone is sorry
i'm sorry too but that's life, i'm sad but all this talk about him makes me sick
i guess Stalin was right "the death of one is a tragedy, the death of millions is a statistic"

You just have a different perspective.

The reason this kind of death impacts you more is due to the fact that it is unexpected.

I think this sort of death impacts more because it is more shocking, when a professional like Puerta is on the field, doing his job, entertaining thousands and playing for a club he has been at for 14 years, the last thing anyone would expect is for something like this to happen. It's also more depressing because he was such a young and talented player, who definitely deserved more time living. My thought's are with his wife and unborn child.

Yeah, it's totally normal to see players actually dying for playing football, i'm sure you reacted the same when Fehér died, and yeah, you're an asshole, or your heart is made of stone, and also, if you don't feel sad just don't post here at all, and don't try to judge us for actually feeling something for someone who died practising the sport with the name of this forum...

first i'd like to say rest in peace Puerta. a tragic moment for football again.

and why this seems more a tragedy more than a statistic? i think its logical. you watch this guy week in week out on TV, get to "know" him in a way, even more so if youre a fan of Sevilla. that is the reason why youre more saddened by this, than by thousands of dead each day in Africa. you dont know those african children, you never saw their faces, what they did in life. it doesnt mean that that isnt a tragedy. its just more personal, even though it sounds weird. as the level of familiarity with the passed away person grows, the more you are affected emotionally (duh...). when a friend passes away, you dont think, "well ok, thousands die each day."
like i said, it may sound silly that i mention that we "knew" this player, but thats my opinion.

again, a sad day for football.

@Capela: I'm sorry, but I don't feel anything about the millions of people dying in Africa. I'm pretty certain you don't either. Nor do I feel anything for Puerta, but I act like I'm sorrowful out of respect for him. So show some respect and rant about african deaths somewhere else, some people want to pay their dues without some jerkoff bothering them.

so because we're expecting 3rd world country people to die we shouldn't even care. to me his dead is not more shocking than most others
to me all this emotions don't make sense
i'm sorry if i'm offending anyone but i just don't get it

this respect that you talk about Mandieta6 is just hypocrisy. you say you don't feel anything but you say you do, that's not respect, at least to me it isn't. that's bulls***. i wouldn't want people showing false feelings if i died
his family won't read any of this, so what's the point ?
i'm sorry for my honesty....

every comment comes from the point of view you have...thats normal....
you care about someone's death when you know him and care about him

i remember a scene from "Silence of the Lambs" movie...the kidnapped girl's parents were told to repeat her name during the TV coverage when they begged the kidnaper to leave her alive...even knowing someone's name changes the whole situation and point of view about him...thats why you dont care about "the million deaths" but mourn а "single person's death"

RIP to Puerta but ^ this ^ man has a point.

No, he doesn't have a point. Actually that was very stupid and unnecessary.

If your parents died, you wouldn't care because they had something to eat everyday, right? A lot of people is dying of starvation.

And the same guy says "he will be missed" because Solskjaer has to retire. So you can feel something because a player has to retire but you feel sick because people care when a 22yo player dies. YOU ARE SICK.

Rest in peace, Antonio Puerta.

-------

Usually when I read that someone died, I write RIP out of respect, often not feeling sorrow myself. I see news about people who died in car accidents every day, and I don't cry for them. But now I do. I'm sad for this man and I actually cried a little when I read the news.

I guess our reaction to someone's death depends on how we found out about it. I found out about Antonio's death while reading through the Barca - Inter match thread on another forum. I came across a post from a guy who said that Barca should do a homage for Puerta. I was like "Homage?! But he's alive!" Just moments later I saw three new words in the Puerta thread title. I was shocked because I had been online just a few hours earlier and he was still alive.

It's different when we read: "X Y has died. RIP." But this, seeing him have a seizure, then following the news on the Internet, and finally finding out he didn't make it... it's much different. And when you know that the man was so young, with his whole life ahead of him, a son...

I guess another reason why people would be more shocked by this than the usual news about car accident deaths or people dying every day in Africa, is that this man seemed to be in optimal shape. Car accidents kill you, hunger kills you, but to just fall down like this... I think people feel more vulnurable after seeing a professional and young athlete just die. It reminds us that we don't need an accident or another external cause to die, it can happen any time. That definitely adds to the shock.

I can understand what you wrote about the people in Africa, Capela, but big disrespect to you for doing it in this thread just after the man passed away. Keep it to yourself or write it somewhere else, you didn't have to do it here and now. Show some respect.

maybe i am but yuo certainly don't understand what i'm saying
solskjaer will be missed in terms of football, he's not dead it has nothing to do with this, at least for me it doesn't
as i said before i'm sorry for his death but i'm sure he led a good life and he was happy. at least that. most of the people i'm talking about can't say that about they're lives
of course it's not usual for a young player to die like this but for me i can't feel that sad. i will feel sad if someone close to me dies
but i'm also sad about those other people who i don't know
to me the problem is not that you're here talking about puerta, it's that you don't even think about the other stuff that's happening. no one does, that's the problem
again, i'm sorry if i offended anyone
