Playing dvds in full screen

On wmp there is a good inch or two of black on the top /bottom and even more on the sides when under full screen. The InterActual player fills the whole screen with the movie but it only plays the first 20 seconds before freezing  Any solutions or alternate programs

Do your self a favor and get Media Player Classic (and/or) VLC. Use MPC as your standard player, and VLC for files you cant play on other players. As long as you have Xvid, AC3 and RealAlternative, with teh 2 above mentioned players you'll be able to play anything. For free. Plus with MPC you will be able to do what you want using the video frame or pan scan options while your video/movie is playing

Is there another good video player except for MPC (and BSPlayer)? The sound quality on MPC is really crap comparing it to the default Media Player, then again it might be from my codecs (?). Plus the fact that MPC doesn't get updated constantly...

Ive never had any issues... All movies playing just fine here. Might be AC3... you could give it a try. It even works fine for 5.1 surround from stereo sources. (altho i can do that from my speakers amp/ hardware level, but its always nice to know you can get software 5.1) ;P

Works fine but the sound is choppy in some parts, don't know what to do. And if I play it on WMP I don't get the same issue.
Could you recommend me a good codec pack? I've got the Ace one but it's bloody old...

Edit: And also a good, recent program for subtitles.

Thanks (Y)

With VLC u dont need any ;)

Same goes for subtitles.
But..., you can d/l VobSub. Once it finds the subtitles in the movie/video folder, if it has the exact same name (for example if the vid is ChickFlick.avi, and the subtitles are named ChickFlick.srt) it will load the subs automaticaly. It also has tons of Options to make sure subs look exactly like you want and in sync with the vid. VobSub will automaticaly load if it finds the subtitles with Windows Media PLayer, MPC and ive also tried it with PowerDvd.

What's VLC? :$ [edit: found about it, thanks, downloading it now]

Could you give me a link to VobSub? I know it's on that Ace codec pack but I can't find a link to their site.

Hey Alex, that quality issue is still bugging me. I mean I tried watching the same movie on Media Player, MP Classic, VLC and DivX Player and on the latter it was like watching a different movie. Any idea how can I optimize the rendering quality (obviously it's not because of the movie, and DivX Player can't load subtitles).

If you are using Divx (meaning that u can that DivX Video Aquamark when the vid starts) you can check the notification area down, right part of the screen (taskbar) and there will be a DivX Icon. If you from there to preferences or settings there ull find some decoding options that might help.
Also with Power DVD, if u have it, when u enable Video Hardware Accel, and if you have an Nvidia generation 6xxx, 7xxx 8xxx or ATi xXXX, x1xxx series card you will be able to have hardware level (gfx card) Video Enhancement (nvidia for example calls it pure video). You can also get that with Windows Media Player, but you will have to buy separately.
VLC has post processing options. You could try setting these to max. May improve things a bit.
