Excellent Quote:
Little is as straightforward as it seems on Planet Beckham, but perhaps the most accurate assessment of an overhyped yet occasionally maligned talent came yesterday from Jorge Valdano, the former Real sporting director, who was instrumental in bringing him to Spain in 2003.
“Those who resent football becoming a business, also resent Beckham — a symbol of the game’s commercialisation,” Valdano said. “It is unfair because he has talent and professionalism. On the pitch he plays football in the classic British style, giving everything for the cause.
“On the pitch he creates for the forwards, he threatens the opposition goal because of the quality of his shooting, he covers the full back, he sticks his foot in with bravery and then he combs his hair, dresses up and leaves the dressing-room . . . and there his other life begins.”
Anyway
Pros
- He’s a United Fan trough and trough
- forget all that talk about Final Pay Days – it’s not the money which he’s after – see *
- experience
- teamplayer
- still excellent providing plenty of assists
- a dead ball specialist
- he’s available on a free transfer in summer 2007 or for a little fee in January 2007
- he wants back to play for England so he will want to do good performances in order to have a chance
Cons
- the media circus (but hey it would take pressure away of Ronaldo and Rooney for example) that surely would be – because if he comes the Glazer want to make profits
*
What Becks wants is play more (not necessarily 90 minutes and every game) just more than the odd 8min cameo appeareance and actually feel accepted in a team.
Where to play him? Central Midfield
C. Ronaldo has done fantastic since the World Cup (cutting the negative almost completly, iproving generally, maturing, becoming a teamplayer) , as have Giggs, Scholes (having revivals of their class form)
Carrick – so far he has not been worth 5M £ and Becks remains better than Richardson, OShea, Fletcher. His workrate is equal to Park.
Anyway IF he would come back Becks could easily play in Carricks position for example – Carrick is no ballwinner, or big runner either.
