USA cruising along so far, Italy gave them a scare for a while today but they showed maturity and well Melo caught MJ-like fire in the 3rd quarter.

What a game and what a drama today! I got up early (7 AM) but the game was great. It cost me a lot of nerve cells but it was worth it For a neutral spectator this should have been excellent 4th quarter especially. We had 10 point lead in the middle of 4th quarter then Marco Mordente hit 3-pointer with Gustas foul. He hit the free-throw and Italy steal the ball when Lithuania threw-in and scored 2 more points so it was basically 6 points in one attack. And our lead was only 4 points. The the hell started. Both teams scored some points. The the fouling started. Belinelli missed one foul. Then it happened again. Kleiza go fouled but missed both free-throws bu Songaila a rebound and he was fouled. He missed both free-throws too! But Darjus Lavrinovic tapped the ball into the basket 68:71 with 3 seconds left. It looked like it's over but Macas fouled Basille from 3pt and he had 3 free-throws but missed them all!

So the first two quarter-final pairs are clear now.

Argentina vs Turkey
Lithuania vs Spain

USA vs Dirk tomorrow

If Dirk puts up like 40/20 we might have a chance not to get blown out. :(

Well you lost by 20 but the scoreline wasn't really representative of the game, Germany did alright for two quarters then 'Melo caugh fire in the third again.

I'm waking up at 3:30am to watch the game against Greece on Friday :rockman:!!

I can't believe I stayed awake until 5:30 in the morning to see us get completely outclassed by Greece of all f*cking nations on this damned Earth. I just can't believe the USA did not win this game, I can't believe it however when I look at the stats it's not too hard to believe it. The USA shot 20-34 from the FT line, thats 14 missed free throws I mean thats enough to beat them by 8 points :kader: :kader:. 8-28 from 3 point range compared to Greece's 8-18, 10 extra possesions that we didn't get anything from (I don't remember an offensive putback by US after a missed three).

I don't understand why LeBron waited soooo f*cking long to start penetrating. Why? As soon as he started doing it he was cutting through their defense just like he does it every season in the NBA but for the majority of the game he just looked satisfied with passing the ball and dribbling upcourt :kader:

Also how about that stretch when the Greeks scored on us like 10 straight times using THE EXACT SAME PICK AND ROLL PLAY EVERY TIME :|:|:|!!!!!!!!!!! Damn it that was terrible to watch, worst defense I have seen in years.

f*ck...

PS: don't get me wrong Greece played a great game and they deserved to win but I'm just fuming because we could of won had we simply made some free throws and played better D.

very dissaspointed :nape:

Well, it demonstrates it's possible to play on the highest level not only in the USA. Even in the NBA there are some teams, where leading players are not Americans: Nowitzki (Dallas), Parker and Ginobili (San-Antonio), Steve Nash (Phoenix).

Here's hoping the Argies win the title. They need to be good at something other than winter vacations in Bariloche, ffs!
