You can only change your team's mentality and tactics whilst on the pitch, there is no way to set your choice of defaults (and the team's defaults don't take effect for a player controlled team - you always start with all tactics off and a neutral mentality)

Hope you understand

While the game is in progress...you use the directional keys on the number pad. When you hit one of the directional keys...a little wheel pops up with four choices..."CA" - counter attack - at the top..."WP" - wing play - on the right directional button..."MR" - man release or third man release - on the left directional button...and I think "BC" - box charge or something - at the bottom...that just means more of your players head for the goal when you control the ball.

You also use this system to control your defensive strategy...only you have to hold "Q" while you press the buttons. Again the wheel pops up with four choices. I'm a little vague about the choices here, since I only use the down button...which is "ZD" or zone defense...or the up button which is "PR" or man pressure. I think on the right directional button is "OT" which is offside trap...and the left directional button is "FB" something about the fullbacks...which I'm not familiar with. These strategies are explained in the game somewhere you can reach from the game menus under something like "game settings" or "My FIFA 2006" or something.

Now...to set your agressiveness (attack, neutral, defend) you use the 5 button on the number pad. In the lower third of your screen, you will see a small circle appear. Press the up directional button on your number pad...and an upright triangle appears. That will push your players further up the field. Hit the directional button again...and the triangle turns upside down. That moves your players further back in a more defensive posture. Press the directional button again...and the triangle disappears leaving an empty circle...meaning your attack is neutral.

It took me a while the get comfortable with this system...but I love it right now...I love being able to change attack, defense and aggressiveness in response to game conditions without having to go to the pause menu.

Hope this helps...any other questions...don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers,
