hey..there is a live telecast show for the opening ceremony in malaysia!

oh excuse me...do u said US?

i'm keep wondering..why in malaysia, the world cup hype is much much bigger than US although our football quality suck ass?

(ooh..it's same boring answer, football is not the no1 sport in us)

It's not. All the games are being televised live over here. It's just ESPN came to the conclusion that no one would watch the World Cup Opening Ceremony, which is correct. There isn't even a procession of athletes or a torch lighting, which is the only reason people tune into the Olympics Opening Ceremony. It certainly wasn't that ice ballet. Well, maybe for the French, but no where else.

totally agree with Shifty. I'll be turning on the coverage for the first game, opening ceremonies should be reserved for the Olympics.

... and for opening new... large buildings i guess :(

All opening ceremonies for major football tournaments are a massive waste of time. Basically, we see 6,000 dancers of questionable sexual orientation propagate stereotypes about the host nation for about a half hour, and then the big finale: the emergence of the fluffy wanker known as the mascot. Give yourself a pat on the back if your new HDTV survives the onslaught of kitsch that is known as the World Cup Opening Ceremony.

I liked the Euro opening ceremony they made that cool looking ship on the pitch...

it's just for entertainment...sheesh chill out. It's just an introduction, Id watch it.

Production and dance to exhort different cultures are interesting to me....call me crazy.

I think an opening ceremony for something like this is very important and just as important as the trophy presentation.

First thing they are two diffrent things, ones in the begining and the other is at the end, but in concept they are both the same. The opening ceremony should be a somewhat of a reward to the countries that have made into the tournament and the trophy presentaion is to the country that actually won the tournament. So with that said in concept they are the same and imho the opening ceremony is just as important.

Its a proper way of opening up such an event rather than having the games just start. It gives the host nation a chance to really showcase there culture and there involvement in the sport. It also gives them a chance to showcase each country who have made it in, such as showing off the country flag, putting on there national anthem, and of course having the whole team (players, coaches etc..) come out onto the pitch and having there fans go crazy. Its also a great time to congratulate each team for working hard and making it. Might sound kind of dumb but to me it might not be important to all the people but it might be important to the teams because it really shows that they have really arrived there and all that time and effort they put in is worth it. Even if they show fireworks at the end it really should get the players hearts pumping and ready to start playing.

Yes I think dancers and all that might seam pretty lame but again some of you say that they should leave this sort of things for only the olympics, why? Just like the olympics this is really the only other thing that the world actually participats in as a whole.

In the end its a love it or hate situation, if you want to watch it fine go ahead and support your country, the sport, and the excitment of the event every step of the way, but if not why bitch about it? its plain and simple just dont watch it.

Oh yeah there is a surprise today on major Comcast markets they are adding ESPN2HD for the WC06. They had been planning for weeks to add it and just had to fine bandwith and contract talks.

Enjoy.

Cool. I have a feeling I'll be in Buffalo Wild Wings more in the next month than I have been combined up to this point in my life. And I'll drink diet soda by the gallons, completely abusing the free refill policy.

Am I the only one on this board who's appreciative of Syaz's contributions to this forum? I really dig 'em, honestly. He stimulates my funny bone quite often.

They showed parts of the opening ceremony on Univision. I guess that must have answered the question about it being broadcasted in the US.
