Passing PES5 !

My oldest son (24) has just about given up on PES5 because of the passing, and having played it too since it came out I can see where he is coming from!

This is supposed to be a sim with pro-footballers stats that are converted to give a feel of playing the real game with these Pro's ...

1. It would seem that your players no matter who they are can't pass the ball either side of a cpu player to a team mate beyond, the player passes the ball in a straight line, it does'nt seem to matter that there is a cpu player standing 3 or 4 yards away right in front of you.

The player on the ball will try and pass the ball through him. In all the time I have played his game , Ive yet to see one of my players pass a ball either side of a cpu player standing 3 or 4 yards in front him, with my next player in a straight line just beyond that cpu player..

2. Is mine! The amount of time I have tried to pass the ball straight to a players feet when I'm standing just outside the box, one example! I have aplayer on the ball just outside the D, about 6 or 7 yards to my left is my forward who is also outside the box (but on the run into it) clear path to my team mate, I press to pass right to his feet and what happens! my player turns a little and passes the ball into box about 3 or 4 yards in front of my running player.. What happens 99.9999999 times out of a 100! A defender moves onto the pass and clears.. FECK AGGGGGGG! I wanted to pass to his feet not away in front of him so a defender get the chance ...

We still LOVE and play the game , but I do hope in the next gen version that the cpu does not pick the passes for me ...as happens just when you don't want it to !!

point 1 i dont agree, because when your player is behind a defender it means he is covered. If the cpu would automatically adjust the pass direction it would be to easy to play.

point 2 i understand, I have that in a lot of occasions. I think its just the way to make the game harder. Its very frustrating, It should be more freely

one way out is use manual passing .
I use my right analogue as the manual pass .....u can adjust the power which makes it extremely effective...nothing like ripping the defence with a perfect timed pass... however trouble is player takes some time to execute the pass..many a times u get tackled...which makes it all the more fun when u get it right!!!!

i haven't played FK as it was japanis version, but the game looks interesting, but people who played FK, they liked the game, especialy the passing, animations & the nets.
just thinking why they don't make FK2? not only for japan version, but they should relise the game also in europe 2, as the sport is much populare over here.

At times I would agree with you on this point , if say my player on the ball P1 has the cpu player a yard or so in front and my other player P2 was close behind the cpu player. But I have seen the same thing happen when my other player, is 5 or 6 yards behind the cpu player.

The player on the ball when I hit the pass button, hits the ball in a straight line , trying to pass the ball through the cpu player. Which in a real game you or I would knock the ball either side of the player in front of us to pass the ball onto our team mate yards behind the player in front of us!

P1.........Cpu-P...................P2 the pass goes in a straight line, now if my second player was a yard or so to the side then the pass would go past the side of the cpu player, but when all 3 players are in a straight line .... the pass follows that straight line even though the cpu as a player on that line ...

I suppose it has to do with the fact that Pes is not a free passing game and that you can't hit passes (with the normal pass button) where you want ! That is what I'd like to see in the next-gen of PES, totally free 360 passing! with a power bar to control the strength of the pass..

Dude are you kidding me? Not even ronaldinho can do a 360 pass...this is not basketball.

"passes" my mistake ... 360 = as in , total freedom of pass.

i feel your pain. i wish the passing was a bit more realistic at times and i find the manual pass often takes too long to execute in tight quarters. i almost always take the ball to one side to make space, either with a turn or the side step maneuver and then passing to the player i want. this also takes time and i end up getting tackled. but i also use the through pass. a lot. i use it in situations that you might not normally think to use it and i often hit the through pass first time. if you watch your forward player time it right you can send the ball to space in the area the second your passing player touches it. (hope that makes sense.)

my frustration with the passing goes beyond this issue, though. i find my players making some very dumb/senseless passes at time. like sending it into touch in exactly the opposite direction i'm trying to pass. PES8 did this once in a while and maybe it's just a matter or timing but it is completely at odds with the idea of world class football. and sometimes a player will attempt to send a simple X pass clear across the pitch through a crowd. there isn't a player alive who would try such a stupid move and of course the AI pounces on these immediately.

but the lob passing and switching (Opposite Side Attack strategy) are bloody good. i use little chips and switching passes all the time and have learned to open up defenses that way.

good luck!

I agree. Its frustrating to see my player pass right into a defender. The developers should get a soccer coach to play the game and hear what comments the coach has to say about the in-game players. I think the manual pass is a good idea, but its just not implemented well. The only quick solve idea I have it to have players pass success rate be determined by a stat, such as passing technique. Then, if a player has a high pass tech. stat he can make that curling pass. But then again, this is a soccer simulation and since most players in the European leagues typically have good passing technique (else they wouldn't be playing), Konami should just make them have curling passes.
