... the date when it was introduced that rule of the goalkeeper not being allowed to touch the ball with the hands after a pass from a same team player?

It was after the Italy world cup in 1990, and before the Euro 1992 in Sweden.

I actually believe Euro 1992 was the introduction of that rule.

no it wasnt.

it was first practiced during the World Youth Cup 1997, I remember because a Malaysian goalkeeper was the first ever to be guilty of this fault. :(

at least thats what I think I remember :boyaka:

Thanks, I also thought that the World Cup 94 was when it started, but today I saw a game from 1993 (Italy-Portugal, World Cup qualifier), and the rule was already on, so it must have been in Euro 92.

I also remember a game for the greek league I watched when two goals were scored with thais rule and this game took place in November 1992-I don't remember however if the rule was introduced before or just after Euro '92.

It's always funny now to watch classic games from the 70s or 80s when defenders under pressure just poke the bal to the keeper for him to pick it up.

Definitly a great idea for the game :rockman:

Actually it was 1991 :ewan:

The backpass rule was not used in Euro 92, but it came into force in time for the 1992/93 season.

It was used in Euro 92.
I know this because there was regular notice of how the 1-1 equaliser by Ireland at Italy 90, which indirectly threw us out of the tournament, would never happen again, as Berry van Aerle wouldn't be allowed to play the ball back to Hans van Breukelen, like he poorly did then, allowing the Irish to score.
