Essien Threatens Strike

Lyon midfielder Michael Essien has announced that he will go on strike unless the French champions concur on a deal with Chelsea . . .

"I have made it clear to them that I will not play for them again.

''From now on I am training with the junior players and I will not take part in any first-team matches for them - they know that."

This is the most atrocious behavior I have heard of in a long time. If he actually goes through with this Lyon, FIFA, and the courts need to throw the book at Essien. Lyon should sue for breach of contract and try and recoup millions from him. Surely Chelsea's transfer market dominance has finally gone too far.

The guy's a complete moron, a disrespectful twat. He even had the audacity to pull out of Lyon's season opener a couple of days ago because of a supposed "stomach bug".

**** all these bastard. "Oh I don't want to play for my club anymore, I want more money, I think I whine now". **** you.

Brilliant move by Essien. Lyon aren't going to sit on a 30 million pound goldmine like him for principle, they're going to sell. Let's see, do I want 30 million, or some guy who will only train with the youth players and never play for the first team. Hmmm, tough decision! And if they do sue him for breech of contract, then he might as well just break the contract, get his huge signing bonus with Chelsea (they wouldn't have to pay Lyon after the contract is broken), and then settle with Lyon for certainly MUCH less than what he got in his new Chelsea deal.

Lyon are idiots to have it come this far, he should have been wearing blue for the past month.

Lyon are c*nts, I hope all the bad things in life happen to them, and only them and nobody else.

Well if he wants to play with the Junior team at Lyon, then I say Lyon should make his wish come true. Stick him in the reserves until his contract runs out, then let the **** go. Bloody whinger is acting like a fecking baby. What is he going to do next? Not report for training? If he does that, I think Lyon should report it to fifa, and sue his fecking ass.

Blind hatred of Chelsea. If you have a contract with an employer, but find a better job, you're going to do everything you can to get out of the contract. And just about 100% of employers in the real world let you out of the contract. Lyon have been offered ample compensation. This is the last resort of Essien, a tactic that is no where near as bad as all of you jealous haters are trying to make it.

As Shifty said.

Sue him, then he will break contract we can sign him on a fee, give a huge signing bonus instead of paying Lyon and any money he loses through being sued will be re-couped at Chelsea and Lyon don't get 20million.

Man this is like the Robinho - Madrid saga. BTW all you people calling Essien a **** and all need to shut up. If he dosnt want to play with Lyon than why shoud he be kept there. Damn just get the money from Chelsea and let him go.

Sure, let Mikel play for Chelsea if he wants to, although he has a contract with Man Utd.
Sure, let Robinho play for Real if he wants to, although he has a contract with Santos.
Sure, let Essien play for Chelsea if he wants to, although he has a contract with Lyon...

Whats next? Sure Lyon is stupid, Chelsea would pay double the price that Essien is really worth, but if they don't want to sell, they don't have to. You just can't say "Sorry Jose, I want to go to Barca now!"

The wrongdoing was on both Essien's and Lyon's part. Lyon should have just accepted the offer. The money was a huge amount and I'm sure they can buy a suitable replacement with that amount. Essien should not have done what he done. However, he has done it worse than Saha did to Fulham a year ago. I'm sure he will be sued and sacked from the club, but be rich again at Chelski.

If Essien dosnt want to play for Lyon than he shouldnt have to either. Honestly why would you want a player who dosnt want to player for your club either???? Im sure with the money that Lyon will get that they can find another player to fill his gap.

Lyon is stupid, and its their own fault its come to this. They think because its Chelsea, they can ask for 5 times the amount of what Essien is worth, and get away with it. They got burnt, Chelsea offered them a largely overpriced deal anyway and they turned it down, thinking they can squeeze even more out of them. I hope they get nothing.
And sure, he wants to go to Chelsea because he'll get more money, but you think he'd go to Russia if they offered him more? Chelsea is in a better league, has a better coach, and has a bright future, while Lyon has Gerard Houllier.

As it stands now, why would Chelsea pay full price for a player who won't even play for the first team? They would be doing Lyon a favor to pay anything for someone who will never play for them.

By the way, anyone who believes Essien is a **** for doing this, you can NEVER quit a job in your life. We've all quit jobs, often to the chagrin of our bosses, but that's life. We don't have to work for a company we hate or work a job we don't like, neither should soccer players.

I don't know...

It is stupid, for an example, when Robinho sayed he wants to go to Real and that he does'nt want to play for Santos, I would have sold him right after the first good offer came in. A player that does'nt want to play for a club, does'nt give his 100% on the field, if his heart is not with the club, sell him. But if the club is stupid enough to keep a player that does'nt want to play for them, then they should try to discuss it like normal people do, in a civilized manner. Why do the players have to run to the press whining and crying that they get abused, and telling they're on a "strike". They have a contract with the club and they should respect it. I don't want the players to be slaves; "Play or rot in the reserves you lazy sod!", but you still can't pick a club you want to play to, just like that. Even if you're a random salesman, you can't quit the job overnight, you can only get fired(well atleast it's that way over here). The immaturity that both sides (Lyon and Essien) are showing is depressing.

the problem is, alot of players rely on "promises" from their managers, coaches. And those promises fade away as soon as a chance for a big profit comes in. thats why players get pissed alot. as far as ive seen, all these players wanting a move are very young, meaning they're very naive. they're getting screwed either by their manager, or by their agent. once they'll be through 5 transfers, they'll get the hang of the bussines world :).

Lyon have a contract, a lawful contract to keep Essien at the club for another 3 years. They have every right to name the price they want for the player and the player does not have anything to say how much the price should be.

Even I would not sell Essien for 21 mil, maybe the 32 mil is too much, but 25 mil would be suitable.

But still Essien is acting childish....Anyone remember a while ago when ManU was after him and he stated that he would love to play for them and has supported them for all his life?....OH how the heart has changed in about 3 months...Chelsea and money are the the love of his life....

I like Essien as a player....but as a human he is a childish money grabbing ****o. Like most of the players these days are.

Lyon have done nothing wrong. They will sell but they're holding out for as much as they can get.

Essien is an over rated, over priced, childish prick.
