Because Football Is Entertainment, at least for us fans. Otherwise you wouldnt prevent yourself from doing other stuff just to watch that single Derby. Why? Because you want to see a good football game. You want to see a good spectacle.

And tell me the truth, when you're a neutral and you're watching a crappy game, you WILL change the channel to see if there's something better to watch (unless its Juve playing). Even if it's another football game.

thats why i dont watch other games if im not interested.

i only watch important games like UCL finals or semi's or WC finals if my team isnt in it because, well, those are important games.
i also watch milan games because i want to see them lose. or inter games because i like to watch them suffer to tie or win a game. or small teams that have awesome young players like lecce and parma because they play well. but not because they put up a show

its not a show. its a sport.

now answer this to me.
why is there a 70,000 crowd watching 10 guys run a 100 mts?
why is there a huge crowd watching a guy throw a disc?
why is there a huge crowd watching guys swim in a pool?
i dont think those sports are very amusing if you only want to watch an spectacle.

those are sports. people like watching a guy fight to be the first one to arrive, or concentrate the most and be the one that jumps higher. its not a show.

I don't know if I'm spelling this right, but Italy have always played with their catenatzio system. Why can't Greece play with a similar system? You cannot say it is luck when we went through teams like Portugal twice, Spain, and France. We had a good tournament and we stayed consistant.

your kidding right? What do you want me to do, shed a tear for you? Portugal was a clear favorite to win the tournament. Hell anything less than a Semi final would have been a disaster.

Your trying to pretend you were the underdogs....wow.
In Toronto, the Portuguese were celebrating as if they were literally the best team in the world. You cant even begin to imagine the celebrations when Greece won (from many nations besides Greece too). It was almost a ferry tale ending with Spain getting a sort of Revenge (Fan who threw the Barca flag at Figo).

Hell no Portugal wasnt the underdog (playing at home too)

Also, I never said that I dont like the attacking football. I just said that I hate it when people bash teams who have no choice but to use (5-4-1) formations and then b!tch when they lose.

I couldn't agree with you more. That one thing was obviously skill. You don't beat teams like Portugal (twice), France and the Czech Republic without a great deal of skill.

I agree with that earlier comment about Toronto. The Portuguese people in Toronto were acting as if they had already won EURO before the 1st game against Greece and before the final game against Greece. It was absolutely fantastic to see the look on all those Porchops faces after Greece won EURO2004!

OPA!

Everybody is bitter for some reason that Greece won. Otto Rehaggel is the coach of the year, hell, hes the coach of the decade. Never has a coach's tactics been so decisive.

If Greece is so bad, why couldnt Spain, Portugal (twice), Czech Rep and France score when it counted? Its not like they had they some sort of advantage over everybody.

How were Portugal underdogs at all? If Portugal won it wouldnt have been the same at all.

another one of those who thinks that football has to be played beautifly in order to be considered as playing well.
is the beautiful football you talk about attacking and scoring goals? because the last time i checked, defending was also part of the game. if you manage to score and defend that lead, you are the fair winner. not lucky winner

Greece how to defend properly, they knew ho to take advantage of counter attacks and dead ball situations. Before the tournament started the best they wanted was a place in the quarters or atleast a win.

Greece didn't survive on luck, they have talent. Not every country can do what Greece did. You need a good coach and talent. To say they won because they were completely lucky, means you don't know what you're talking about. Yes they did have some luck, but every team had some luck. Only 2 teams in the whole tournament for me had no luck what so ever, Bulgaria and Italy.

As for ugly play, they did play ugly soccer at times, but they did play some attractive soccer too. They defend with 11 players in the box, that's way over exagerating. How many times have you seen a defender win a penalty shot? Zagorakis made 2 portuguese defenders look foolish in the final and he's a holding midfielder.

By the way Greece played in a 4-3-3 formation, scored only 3 headers (all in the knock out stage). Once again just over exageration.

Either way, love em' or hate em' Greece pulled off the biggest shocker of all-time. Atleast it's a change form France, England, Germany and other power houses.

Ya, i was gonna say the same thing. Other than win the WC in the 60's, have they even reached a final in WC or Euro since?

I hated the way greece played. They were not enjoyable to watch at all because 90% of the time the other team was trying to find a way through and just passing around in no mans land. If they didnt have a 3 meter tall forward then they wouldve gotten nowhere :kader:

... uh...no. your getting a little exited there. :p
I complimented Greece on giving other small football nations some hope but Its not like Jamaica won the World Cup or something. Greece defeated a Portugual that had already been beaten by Greece weeks before.

Greatest shocks would would be
1)Arsenal/Liverpool in 89 (talk about Holy ****)
2) Korea beating Italy (even if they were at home) was considered WAY more shocking (especially scoring with seconds left.....both times)
3) The obvious Maracanazo in 1950 world cup in front of 200,000 fans. vs. a Brazil that only needed a Tie (and they were leading too) and one that was winning games 6-0....7-1.....and were pretty much flawless the whole tournament.

(By the way I watched Fever Pitch the other day...awesome movie about Arsenal's 89 title win. What a finish that was!)

thats the difference.

you watch a game to have a good time

i watch a game to see my team win doing whats necessary

yea sure its great when there are lots of goals. but it shouldnt be considered boring a team that defends and counter attacks whenever they have the chance. those are tactics and are also part of the game.

haven't you noticed that a team does whatever they need to do to win? if that means defending with 11 men on the box, so be it.
