true, sports is emotional...especially with neighboring countries or nations with long histories and rivalries. but personally, i don't believe that politics and sports should be mixed. and i certainly don't believe that anthems should be booed. i can understand the bitterness. i'm korean...i know many elders that have lots of anger and hurt and bitterness towards the japanese. but i just think it's beyond disrespect to boo an anthem. just sit quiet and cheer loudly for yours.

with that said, i can't believe we lost.
ok. not just the elders. i dont agree with the whole booing of national anthem, but you know that japan is doing some ungrateful things. that doesnt mean i agree with booing, its just that your whole "elder" comparison make it seem as though its not this generation's problem. it also seems as though you like to think it as someone else's problem by saying it applies to the elders, but in reality, they are bulls.hitting with their shrines, the resolution to comfort women, and the whole sea of japan and the island dispute.

we deserved to lose. of course, a victory would've been nice, but we have been really unstable from the matches we saw. if we were to win the asian cup with this, i would be shamed because we really didnt deserve it.

well... I guess it still take some time before they get over it...coz the thing happened like 50-60 years ago.... and people still have vivid memories of it... I think it'll take about 40 more years or one more generaton for people to forget about it.... coz the thing happened to most people's parents or grandparents... so it's still vivid now....

I know the booing sucks and disrespectful... but it's their granddad killed your granddad and raped your grandma... so it takes some more time to get over it.....

my comparison with the elders is just a reference. most of the people i know, personally, that are still bitter towards the japanese are the older generations. you're absolutely right. it may not be just the elders and it is not my intent to say that it's not only the older generation's problem. i'm not going to debate whether or not whose problem it is now. as Carlos*y's said in the previous post, maybe there just needs to be more time.

Wow, looks like it's gonna be an explosive game! Tensions are high!

http://www.cnn.com/2004/SPORT/football/08/06/china.japan.reut/index.html

BEIJING, China (Reuters) -- Beijing, urging fans and players to be sportsmanlike, will be on high alert when China clash against bitter rivals Japan on Saturday in an Asian Cup soccer final laced with political and historical overtones.

More than 6,000 security staff will be deployed for the potentially explosive game, with riot police, armed soldiers and special operations teams in position to prevent crowd trouble.

Japan's embassy said on Friday it was warning Japanese fans to be extra cautious amid escalating acrimony. "Our statement told Japanese that if you go, be careful not to get into trouble or an unpleasant situation," an embassy spokesman said.

Resentment lingers in China of Japan's invasion and occupation of parts of the country from 1931 to 1945.

The tensions have spread to wars on the Internet. A group of Chinese gathered 1,900 hackers to attack 200 Japanese and Taiwan Web sites, many of them official sites, Hong Kong's Wen Wei Po newspaper said.

The newspaper said the move came after a July 25 Japanese attack on the Web site of a group defending China's sovereignty claim over a group of disputed islands.

LOL... Japan hacked Chinese sites and then China hacked Japanese sites.... looks like they really dislike eachother
