push ups ect. polymetrics ect. have a wider range of motion. weights are for isolating certain muscles for strength

PLYOMETRICS are power training. Where power is the ability to produce a large force in a short period of time. All sprinters do plyometric training so this is what you need to add, and the Idea from Jon is also good....the one about sprint for 1 minutes, jog for 1 is an example. As you improve increase the time for sprinting and descrease the jog time.

hahaha....

i meant that i agree with what you were saying about anaerobics and aerobics...how push ups help endurace with muscle strenghts while lifting weights help build muscle strength and mass.

Fanatico,

I highly recomend the book "Sports Speed", I have incldued an amazon.com link below.

Much of speed is gentic however, and is determined by the ratio of red (slow twitch) and white (fast twitch) fibres in your muscles. This is why events like the 100 meters are dominated by black athletes of certain african decent, and also why in basketball, the more explosive exciting players tend to be black, whislt white athletes often excell in events that don't require fast explosive muscle movements. having said that, there are lots of fast white people, adn slow black people as well.

because of this genetic disposition (regardless of race) people will either tend to be endurace or power athletes, however both can be improved through training. The book I recomended is gold as far as teaching training techniques for speed adn explosive power.
