So Sick Of EA's Random "Difficulty" Coding

In PES, the player goes into a "brace for a stop" animation which becomes a kind of "slide on the grass for a meter" animation, after which it takes a second before the player is able to collect himself, turn, and then start jogging the other way, building up speed as he goes. In other words, exactly like real life.
This is totally 100% true.
I agree with this and FIFA needs this bad, agility in FIFA is super human almost as if there is no law of physics. They run, stop and turn and continue running and passing you could be facing 9:00 and hit a pass to 2:15 with pin point accuracy.
Always drives me nuts. Wish there was something that could be done about that.

One of the things I love most about PES that you can't do in FIFA unless you edit some of the ini files is simply... run too far. In FIFA I feel like I can turn on a dime with ANY player of ANY skill level. And one thing I love about sports games is when I have to be as careful with my controls as players do in real life with their movements. Even with Cristiano Ronaldo, if you're racing down the flank top speed, you do actually have to calculate space to stop and turn in PES because your momentum CAN actually make you go too far or you DO manage to stop but you lose the ball because you overrun it. Along with that is not standing in the right place and kicking a ball with the side of your foot, passing too quickly and not getting enough force on the ball, deking too fast with a player with lesser skill and losing control of the ball... all those things are the kind of thing I love seeing in sports games. Same type of realistic physics you find in MVP 2005, NFL 2K5, NHL 2K8. PES is a rarity in modern sports games for its commitment to realistic physics.

Although to be fair, in the essential things, FIFA is fine, it just lacks refinement in depicting realism and I get that it does that in order to be pleasing to a wider range of people's abilities. They want kids to play it as much as adults and that means you need to make it easier to pick up and play even if you never have before. And increasing the difficulty level in FIFA doesn't make the game more realistically challenging it just seems to crank everyone's intensity. Harder shouldn't mean "more aggressive" and "faster", it should mean more intelligent.

Just a couple of cents.

If you keep Origin in offline mode, then Origin won't download updates when you start a game
This comment is close enough to the conversation we were having a while back about Origin and updates...

So it's happening again. There is a new update for FIFA 18. And I have auto-updates off. But Origin won't allow me to play FIFA 18 until I go online and update.

I'm doing nothing different. I always start up FIFA 18 in online mode because it auto-validates that way. Then I switch to offline mode in the Origin page. Then I launch the game.

This morning, when I switch to offline mode, it asks me to re-validate the game. But it won't re-validate my game offline, and so the game won't launch. It is forcing me to switch to online mode and download the update. And if I don't update the game, it won't allow me to launch it.

Just wondering if this is going to break CGFE... ugh.

I update everytime but it doesn't break CG FE.

But CG FE breaks the game lol. You might have to download the whole game. Make sure to rename the data_original and patch_original otherwise Origin will download the whole game.

Thanks. Yeah, I already thought about it, thinking I need to reinstall the original FIFA 18 folder before updating.

Hopefully cgfe gets more stability updates. I'm facing multiple issues when trying to do simple things like replacing a texture. Also you can't import textures that are higher in resolution than the original textures.

Oh okay, that probably explains why CGFE crashed this morning when doing a simple texture import, which I've done 100 times no issues, it was probably the resolution I guess.

Good tip. Hadn't thought about that. I think that happened to me with FIFA16 a few weeks ago because I had a patch installed. It must have been that it didn't recognise the game.

CGFE will do this for you, select the executable then when it asks what mod to load select "None" and untick the "Load mod into Explorer" box and it will load the default files, exit the tool and your modded data is saved and game files returned to vanilla. Renaming the _original folders removes the symbolic links and forces you to start over.

Do not do it the way Sami is telling you to, to load your modded files back in after the update simply do the opposite of what you do to set the root to vanilla from modded.

Oh yeah, you can do that too. It's more easier that way.

By the way, if I make multiple changes, do I have to save them in one patch? Or can I save them separately and then the game will read all the modified files?

The game can only read one setup at a time, I have multiples and an All In One. I do this so that I can test everything first before I corrupt a setup. Once it all works together then I delete the individual setups.

Was there an update today or in the last few days since as Saturday ?

Origin was open thanks to my children and when I clicked on FIFA 18 icon in Origin it said "finalizing".
There better not have been an update.

Is there any way to import files from one setup to another?

Like for example:

First I made changes to LODs and saved it as "Max LODs".

Then I made changes to grass and saved it as "Grass"

But now I wanna pack them together, so I loaded "Max LODs" and tried tried to save it as "Modded Graphics" [And then load "Grass" and save it in "Modded Graphics" too].

^but then I get a error message that files already exist. So I can't pack them together that way. I have to delete everything [Lods and grass] and then add individual files from scratch and then pack them in one single folder.

Took me a couple of hours to figure out what you meant here, but then the lightbulb went on! Thanks, great idea.

EDIT: Actually, this raises the same questions. Whenever I try to copy any of the files/folders in Origin Games/FIFA 18, it always hangs up at 99% complete. It never finishes copying my CGFE stuff. So how can I copy/save those files?

So it's not only me.

I tried to make a backup of the latest files but copying stuck somewhere around 90-95% and that was when it was trying to copy modded files. I thought my backup hdd died.

You have to stop looking at it like FIFA modding of the old days, the copy and paste deal is done. I do everything via .cgm files. If the mods work then I make a patch
to import to my main install, "RC AI". Then I check for conflicts between the 2 files, if everything is good I create another patch containing the mods and so on.
Constantly have a All In One patch of the last functioning setup to import if the setup goes sour.

Just to add, when you use the tool to revert to vanilla from a modded setup the tool only protects the modded files that are symbolically linked, so if you modified
the locale.ini in the data folder you will lose it. You need to test your ini code in the locale in the data folder and when you are happy add the code to the locale in the
initfs file.
