CG File Explorer 18

There's something I don't understand about CGFE. If I import a patch with it, the game install folder stays modified. But if I then want to go in and edit anything, I run CGFE and choose not to import a patch, the install folder loses the backup folders it made with the patch. Why?

Do you have "Load mod into Explorer" ticked ?
It will do exactly what you said it is doing so I'm guessing that is the problem.

Once you have edited a file or imported a patch and have clicked "Create Mod" and close CGFE the next time you launch the tool you select the executable and then you select whatever you saved your mod as from the drop down menu.

Make sure when you run the tool you launch it with Administrator privileges.

...for cryin out loud, I'm an idiot... ok. So if that's ticked, it thinks you want to load whatever you're loading into the game, thereby overwriting what the install folder was doing before. It's like saving over a game save. What was there before is gone. So, if you untick then it just opens that install but without "importing" anything to it. Is that it?

Kind of.

When you untick "Load mod into Explorer" it will do exactly that, not load the mod into the Explorer.
So once you have gone through the motions of modding, creating and naming a mod and exiting the Explorer to relaunching at a later point in time
you always have to select your executable file then select your mod and make sure the checkbox is ticked.

I understand that the explorer has some issues regarding the use of creation master to import kits. I am using this tool without errors but I'm wondering, only kits have problems in creation master or all the section?
I find it very time consuming to edit players via db master, so I hope inthis regard there are no errors with cm.

I tested it twice with player names; both tests corrupted my db. So yes there are some bugs.
Well, thanks for saving me a lot of time and nervs in finding this out on my own.
Maybe shawminator will release a fixed version although my real hope is the release of this tool for fifa 19 as early as possible.

Well some people claim to have used it with no issues. But even Nafer said not to use it to edit his FIP mod or it will corrupt the mod. So just use it if you dare I guess.

agreed that is what is important now. leave all fixes for the next release.

on that note, there is very little info fed back to the user when you using CG. I really think that needs to be thought of. Although, I guess the first phase was to get a working release and go from there?

I work as a software developer. @shawminator, if you need any help on this project, don't hesitate to ask via PM.

I think shawminator needs all the help he can get but this program requires above the average knowledge in programing. So you could send a pm directly to shaw since he stated he has very little free time and probably doesn't read all the messages here.
Indeed, this feels like a beta release but with the potential to bring us to fifa 16 level of modding so we all must support the tool development in any way we can.
For those who have extensive programming knowledge, this is the time to put them to use.
Also, there is no reason why the explorer shouldn't work for fifa 19, with the proper adjustments since is the same graphic engine, but is nothing surprising me anymore from EA's part.

Truth: If I spent 100s if not 1000s of hours on something as fantastic as CGFE -- AND released it free to the community -- only to read people online calling it a beta effort, I would never ever share or upload my files again.

One cannot edit the db using the DA tool without risking errors. But the DA tool can still be used for other edits. Plus you can easily use CGFE to export the db, edit it in DBM, and then use it again to import the edited db back into the game. Another amazing editing feature in its own right.

That's the one and only issue; everything else in CGFE works perfectly. It's an amazing tool, period. Beta release? No.

Not to deny the man's effort, I said is the best tool, complete and it needs in some fine tuning like every new program in this world.
And this is why we all must give suport with what we can and do what is in our power not just throw posts like "this program is buggy, not working".
Look at Fifa itself, it releases in september and then it gets patches, only in this case the patches make it worse...
And that is what I mean by "like a beta release".
By the way, I've edited player stats and kits through creation master section and I get no errors.(with the game modded to work with frosty editor also), so I take beta release thing back, for me it is complete.

Good to hear.

My real point: posting subjective comments and personal opinions about peoples' mods, is not feedback. If something "feels like a beta release," that's a subjective comment and personal opinion. Whereas helpful feedback is posting that editing names in the DA causes db errors. Paul, who you were responding to, posted a suggestion about adding user feedback when editing with CGFE, to make it more user friendly. Again, Paul's was not a subjective opinion, but an observational fact stated as helpful feedback.

As I said before, the DA is nothing more than Rinaldo's CM inside CGFE, same tool, same source code, same issues it has always had.
Generally when I use it I encounter no errors other than an occasional miscalculation of overall rating being displayed but it always correct in game.

As of right now do what you can with this tool because shawminator is on a hiatus from FIFA, currently working on a tool for PES.

Truth is this is 90% of the reason he has left the tool alone for now, the other 10% is the game itself.
Unfortunately words can be very powerful and the damage is done.

I have been posting for years on this board about being grateful and displaying patience, the community is dwindling down to nothing but members who
want without wanting to learn or give anything back to the places that have given to them for years.

We don't have the MonkeyDragon, Rinaldo, Bernd and now shawminator to do this for us, once there are no more there is no more modding.
This should have sunk in years ago and the old saying goes "You reap what you sow".

This is a very odd attitude to have. If you enjoy making tools to play your favourite games, then what people/trolls/idiots say shouldn't affect you. Software development customers are always a fickle bunch and expect everything to be perfect. Its part of the course to be honest.

Sounds to me that Shawminator has got bored of FIFA/CGFE and fancies a different challenge. That's fine by me.

Still never understood why people don't share their source code though. Someone else can pick up where they left off via GitHub for example. Its not like we can "resell" the code, so your not losing anything. That's my opinion though.

I'm very grateful for what @shawminator has done. As are many, many others that enjoy modding Fifa.

Of course - as with everything - there is a vocal minority that complain. These people always complain. They should be ignored.

The vast majority that use @shawminator's truly appreciate what he's done and are very thankful. They're just not always as loud as the other group unfortunately...

Sounds like you've never been in a bad marriage lol. Or worked for a lousy boss. You can have all the love and enthusiasm in the world, but you still get beat down by the constant criticism and lack of appreciation. It's not an attitude at all, it's what happens to some people, because of other people.

Hello, is it possible to modify the WC db to insert the Italia team with the players modified by me?

Hello,

I would like to have the top two sides from the Australian A-league be promoted into the English league 2 and vice versa the bottom two English teams relegated. Any help with what compdata files need to be edited to make this happen would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
