Where's the manual?

Hi,

I just bought FIFA 07 and have installed and played the game a little. FIFA 07 is the first soccer game I have played sinde Kick Off on Amiga, so I was pretty lost at first. No problem, I thought and turned to the manual. I started looking for answers to the many questions I had. Soon I realized how useless the manual was. I can't believe you can sell a game THAT complicated and supply such a thin little pamphlet. It even arrogantly states that the menus and user interface is self-explanatory so no further explanation should be necessary(!) I guess I must be a complete retard, then. Surely there must be some online resource with screen shots describing the many status bars, functions and symbols in the game???

I did a search for this topic on the forum, and was surprised to see that mostly people have just asked specific questions. Maybe that's the way forward, but hell, I don't even no where to start!

Thanks.

You don't even know WHERE TO START? What exactly do you find difficult? You managed to start a match, at least that's what you said. That IS a start. The important stuff like shooting, passing etc. is explained in the manual so the main thing, the playing, shouldn't be such a problem anymore.

You don't have to understand all bars and symbols at once. Take some time to learn the game and you'll soon realize it's not a very complicated game.

When on a screen with options you don't understand try clicking the question mark icon top right of the screen, which will pop up a text box with some occasionally helpful wisdom. Also read the splash screens that come up when loading games, they throw up the odd pearl too. Finally, check out the full range of menu options and you will find things like a Hints and Tips section.

Yes, I did manage to start a game. It's just that concepts of essential game elements are not explained. For example, if I change language, I have to create a new profile. What's a profile, what's the scope of it, what do I need it for and why is it language dependant? Another example: If I during a game press the numeric 5, I seem to be able to enable certain attack modes. The section in the manual that describes this is useless. In career mode, I'm completely lost. What mechanics go into contract negotiations? I prepare a contract proposal and it is rejected by the player. Why? What figures and numbers need to be adjusted? No explanation in the manual. It's frustrating not being able to find these answers anywhere. What abaout the coloured bars next to the players on the team roster? What do they indicate, and how are they computed? Also there are a ton of abrevations I have no idea what means. It's beginning to look like a waste of money. The game seems to be directed at people who already know FIFA 06.

it could look a little complicated at first if you dont know much bout soccer.
(if i were to buy Madden 07, i would be lost)
Profiles:
they are created so that you could get the most out of ur fifa
it keeps stats of the amount of games u play(win, loose, tie), ur favorite team, difficulty level, can transfer players to other teams, and all that kind of stuff ..
thatz if more than one person plays the game in your house, and u dont want ur brother messing up with ur teams
about contracts:
fairly simple... if you play with a lower division team... (suckie team less than 3 stars) they wont probably want to come; just like in real life...
you would have to offer them lots of money to the player and to the clubs...
i would recommend to get free players, or loaned ones.
coloured bars:
you are probably refering to their mentality and health..
players tend to get tired really quickly ...after 1 or two games their health they need a break.. if they are suckie players
green: healthy yellow: ok red: cant play
bout the abreviations..
u probably talkin bout the players positions...like
GK: goalkeeper
LB: left back RB: right back
CB: center-back
RWN,LWN: right or left wingers
CM: center mid... RCM, LCM
AM: attacking mid
CAM: center-attackin mid
CDM: center-defensive mid
ST: striker
RM, LM: mids

you act like knowing all of this was so essential. "waste of money"... why do you need to know what a profile exactly is? just create one (you're guided through this) and play the game without thinking about it.
When your proposals are rejected, what could be the possible reasons for that? You don't offer the player / his club enough money, or your club's too insignificant. Some of your questions can be anwered with a basic knowledge of football.
Manager mode is again something you learn by doing.

Thanks for the answers. You are absolutely right, I don't know a lot about soccer. I was under the impression that I might get to know a little more by buying and playing this game. And no, you are probably right that it is not all essential to play the game, but it certainly takes away a lot of the joy, having to guess what symbols and abreviations mean, when EA could've just written it in the manual. But thanks for helping me out :ewan:

Right, but the contract negotiation thing is completely useless if I have understood it correctly. Do you just have to guess what the player demands in order for him to accept an extension of his existing contract? If he rejects, I can't present him another contract proposal, only after some time has passed, it seems?!
