This might be a stupid question...but really need help.

I would have posted on the Championship Manager forum ....but since its all but dead.....i posted here.

I bought CM 03/04 last week for the soul purpose of pretty much just playing with the Uruguay national team.

Now after going to about 3 different forums.....no one was able to help me with this question.

I just want to know how to play as the Uruguayan national team.

But I read that the only way to pick a National team is to play on the LEAGUE in which you want to manage.
Problem is that there is no Uruguayan league.......so ive tried everything but the little "Manage team" Never apears when i click on a player....or the nation......etc

Can anyone help me at all please?

Actually, the info is in the 'How to' thread in the Older CM games forum. I'll repost it here for you, and add some extra info, much easier

There need to be sufficient players of the nation to be able to manage it. You can try to achieve this by using the retain_nation_players command:

save the notepad as team/nation.ddt (the ddt bit on the end is the most important part.... just type that in), just copy like in the pic below including putting the file type to 'all files'. The bit of the name before the dot is just for recognition. Name "as you like.ddt"



then put that file in CProgram Files\Eidos\CM 03-04\data\db
like the pic below......

Of course, you'll have to use "uruguay", not el salvador

Thanks so much man.

But what I was looking for was just a kinda "step by step" instruction on how pick Uruguay to manage.

Everyone always tells me: "Find a Uruguayan player and it should say MANAGE TEAM at the bottom right......."
But it never says "Manage team" at all.

I've done everything possible but I cant manage Uruguay for the life of me. Only like Brasil is available (And I play the J-League....so thats wierd).

Bare in mind that the squad must have 26 players.

Wow....well I did everything (step by step) INCLUDING the "notepad" file (which worked too).

Now the team does have 26 players and everything.......but it STILL wont apear.

What gets me furious is that it works when clicking "Brazil" for example. (which has 26 players automatically).

I dont know. id hate to bother u guys again but if you have any last suggestion, it would help.

There need to be something like 150 players in the game's database with Uruguayan nationality to be able to manage Uruguay, not just 26. (I meant to put that in earlier, but I forgot )
If there's just not that many players in the database, you'll never be able to manage it, unless you add Uruguayan players with the editor.


Just checked, there's actually plenty players if you have that .ddt active. 1415 players to be exact. You do have to select Uruguay as the team to manage at the start of the game, btw, otherwise the original manager will keep his job.

Oh and 1 more thing........i did the game in the "large" database mode.......(only way I can find more than 150 uruguayans) and the game takes me like (literally) 50 minutes every time i press "Continue Game".

Does anyone know how I could play the same way but in the medium data base mode (the mode I play)

(Also.....the Editor wont let me load a database cause aparently..."i dont have one". Do you know how I can save a data base?)

With the .ddt active, the Uruguayan players will all be loaded, even on small database. No need for large database. About the editor... try Michael Nygreen's CM4 / CM 03/04 editor, which is available from www.nygreen.net. Don't use the one that came with the game.

about the .ddt file.......how do I get it to operate? Ive loaded it on the right folder but the players dont appear on the game (ive done everything right)


Im guessing i have to upload the ddt file in the game after its in the file or something.

After you have saved it in the "\data\db" folder, you go into the 'edit preferences' screen to see if it's really there. Like this:



If it's not there, you have probably not saved it correctly, and will still have it as .txt in stead of .ddt.

i never thought id have such a problem to just figure this simple thing out.
I did everything right........even the little DDT file works perfectly (it has the "uruguay" with the check mark and everything")

I turn on a "Middle Database" game.....put Argentine league (DIV 1 Only) .....find a Uruguayan player...............but the Damn little "MANAGE TEAM" Still doesnt appear.

I feel like **** just for wasting your time guys. I came from work today all hyped that im finally gonna do this......no luck.

Doubt theres anything else i could try.

The only thing you can do now is check if the ddt did actually work, using CM Scout 3.10 (available at www.nygreen.net) to analyse a game you started with the ddt active:

1. load up the game in CM Scout after you saved it in CM 03/04
2. search for players with Uruguay as nationality
3. see if the number you find is 1415, as it should be.




If it is 1415 players you find, I'm completely out of options; if it isn't, make sure the code in the ddt is exactly (including quotation marks) "RETAIN_NATION_PLAYERS" "Uruguay"

Selecting large database might help too. Through that way there will be more players in you db.

But if you have a slow computer I don't recommend it.
