  • The North American soccer thread [R]

    http://www.soccergaming.com/forums/s...d.php?t=188235

The MLS playoffs started last week and two of the games took place on really bad surfaces. According to American soccer superfans we're not supposed to complain about that though and should be grateful that they have venues to play in at all. Whatever. It was ugly.

Pretty sure Red Bull will win the title.

Something about Liga MX goes here.

Are the sounders still in it? I liked them ever since the xbox kits a few seasons back and when they posted streams for their games on facebook

They're playing Portland in the playoffs, they're down 2-1 with the Portland leg on Wednesday.

I don't like playoffs in soccer. If you have to have them I think a draw should count as a win for the higher seeded team, there's no real advantage in rounds other than the final for finishing first otherwise.

I think the Mexican league did something along those lines. It's Mickey Mouse as shit.

It does. Those two are actually better than the one the NASL uses. This is how the league finished:

                Spring Championship
                1. Atlanta 21
                2. Carolina 20
                3. San Antonio 20
                4. Tampa Bay 18
                5. Edmonton 14
                6. Minnesota 14
                7. Fort Lauderdale 8
New York Cosmos didn't enter the Spring season.

                Fall Championship
                1. New York Cosmos 31
                2. Carolina 23
                3. Tampa Bay 20
                4. Minnesota 20
                5. Fort Lauderdale 18
                6. Edmonton 16
                7. Atlanta 16
                8. San Antonio 10

Atlanta will host New York in the Championship Game, there are no playoffs meaning the best team across the whole year doesn't even get a chance.

                  San Antonio Scorpions represent!

Anyway, I actually wouldn't mind that (although I hate the whole two season a year thing but that's another story), but I know it wouldn't happen as there's no way Mexican teams would steer away from their watered down format because it yields more money.

Doesn't the Florida area sans Miami yield shitty attendance for pretty much every pro sport?

Pretty much. Orlando City's gotten some huge crowds but there are rumors that they comp loads of tickets.

I think the playoffs work for the MLS.

New York threw away the tie away.

Seattle's playing a defensive midfielder as a striker because he's really big, guess how that's working out.
