  • 2015 NFL & College Football Thread

All the camps and stuff have started so we might as well start talking about it. I don't really watch the NFL outside of the Panthers because it's not as fun to me, I like college football more because I feel like it's more entertaining.

I think Ohio State will win again this year though some SEC team might stop them.

If you have questions about college football (like: What team might like, What is "Clemsoning"?, ect.) ask them here.

    What is Clemsoning?

I'm looking for a College team to follow. I like Cardale Jones but I feel like going for Ohio is too mainstream.

Maybe Stanford? I value academics but I would like an entertaining side that plays maybe an option game.

Curious to see some NFL rookies and how the Seahawks are gonna do now that Wilson and soon Wagner will eat more of that capspace.

Clemsoning is the act of hitting the self destruct button and pulling defeat from the jaws of victory. Clemson's a strong team, one of the best in their conference, but it seems like they always find a way to mess up right when it looks like they're gonna get over that final hill.

Look into Georgia Tech. They have a great engineering program and run the triple option. They're a strong ACC team.

I follow college football closer than about 99% of college football fans. You wouldn't believe how crazy my college fantasy league is. We draft incoming freshmen to redshirt every spring.

I like UCLA to make the playoffs.

If we go with academics I would prefer somewhere known for humanities. Florida State have a great Beckett scholar working there, maybe they'd be a good option. Or maybe UCLA?

1 member of the faculty? FSU is a party school, and not a party school like Wisconsin that has good academics in spite of the (well earned) reputation. If you are going to pick a team based on good academics plus success on the football field, the only real option is Stanford which is currently ranked as the number 4 national university in the country tied with Columbia and just behind Harvard/Yale/Princeton.

Yeah, Stanford is going to be your go to if you go with humanities instead of STEM fields.

Duke isn't terrible these days either if you want a team that might be easier for a European to watch (West Coast games can start pretty late).

Watch Air Force, Army, and Navy in addition to Georgia Tech if you want to see lots of option.

Other schools with a combination of good academics and decent teams in no particular order:

Duke, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, UCLA, USC, Michigan.

And if you go just ever so slightly down, but still internationally renowned for academics: Wisconsin, Texas, Ohio State. Wisconsin and Texas are historically in that higher tier of public schools, but have been screwed over by state government in the last decade or two.

So basically the Arsenal of college football.

Also, this year I'm really disinterested by the upcoming season. It could be the Super Bowl win or the Deflategate BS, but I'm not looking forward to the upcoming season as I usually am. Of course once it gets rolling I'll be glued to the tv, but as of now I'm like meh.

Stanford or UCLA will ptobably be the way to go, although I think Stanford play a prop system? Option or spread sounds more interesting on paper. When does the season start? I might try to catch a game or two. Would be nice to know a few players for draft season.

Hush, we just won a preseason treble!

Sept. 3, four games. Best of which is probably Michigan-Utah.

UCLA and Stanford both play a pro style system.
